How to turn up a 8.3 Cummins

Anyone with some info on this?My son-in-law uses a Hot Shot truck to pull a 45 foot sprint car trailer and needs more power to get over the mountains here in the western states. Any and all info would be appreciated.

We have 8. 3s in some of our medium trucks here, and many of them have the P7100 pump.



If you have a P-pumped 8. 3, then BOMBing shouldn't be hard at all.

Will they need more boost if the pump is turned up and can they do a torque plate swap also?

Anytime you add more fuel you need more air (boost) to burn the fuel and keep EGTs down. The more fuel you throw at it, the more boost it will make as long as the turbo is up to the task. In simple terms this means that the wastegate on the turbo needs to be adjusted or the turbo exhaust housing needs to be changed.



You haven't said if the 8. 3 is a 12valve P-pump or a later model ISC 24 valve. Both can be turned up pretty easy, but like the 5. 9s,the p-pump has the advantage. A P-7100 equiped 8. 3 can crank out 520hp and 1800ft/lb with only a plate, injectors and a larger exhaust housing for the stock HX-40. You can also buy a 60hp/200ftlbs box for the '97 and later electronic 8. 3s.

Do an 8. 3 search. There is some good info. They are very similar to the 5. 9s, just more displacement.
