So I think I found a DRBIII from a friend of a friend to use this weekend, so I can program the last few digits of my VIN into my ECM so I can use my Smarty finally. I have been talking with Bob all week about this, about early 03 trucks missing the last few digits of the VIN int he ECM and posted my problem early this week

So I was wondering does anyone know how to do this with a DRBIII? The person I am borrowing it from knows nothing and I was hoping that someone could give me step by step instruction so I do not mess anything up. I have use a Tech2 for GM products a bit but never a DRBIII.

Thanks,

Nate

Here you go:

a. “DRBIII Standalone”

b. “1998 - 2007 Diagnostics”

c. “All”

d. ”Engine”

e. “Cummins Controller (ECM/ENGINE)”

f. “Miscellaneous”

g. “CM84X Check VIN”

h. Follow the directions on the DRBIII® screen. When the process is complete,

proceed to next step.

NOTE: Due to the Cummins controller programming procedure, a DTC may be set in

other modules (PCM, TCM, BCM, MIC, SKIM, etc. ) within the vehicle, if so

equipped. Some DTC's may cause the MIL to illuminate. Check all modules

using “Module Scan” and erase these DTC's. Erase any DTC's in the PCM only after

all other modules have had their DTC's erased.

Hope this helps,

Dave

Thank you both for the help. I will be printing this out to follow along with. The guy cant get the DRB until Tuesday now, so I will let you know how it turns out then, and if I can finally start playing around with the Smarty:D.

Dave,

Thank you very much for your list. It helped a lot and I followed it to a tee. My ECM now has my full VIN and I was able to connect the Smarty. I am looking forward to my drive home tonight when I get to try it out.

Thanks,

Nate
