can some one please explain this to my simple mind? i understand like it says... ..... it senses the pulses in the injector line, but how do you use it, or rather in what manner? can some one make up a scenario or something and explain it to me please? how would you use this to set timing? or is it used to mark a spot that you adjust to, so you dont have to use a depth gauge in the fuel pump? im lost some one fix me.

"piezoelectric: The generation of electricity or of electric polarity in dielectric crystals subjected to mechanical stress, or the generation of stress in such crystals subjected to an applied voltage"

The clamp has a small piezo element in it. That piezo crystal produces a small voltage spike whenever it "feels" the small pulse in the steel line that it is clamped on to. So whenever your injector opens, the line flexes a tiny amount, causing the piezo to produce a small voltage spike which triggers the timing light.

Its magic :)

so there is no real benifit to it on our trucks then it seems... ..... or am i over looking something?

i mean you are still going to have to go thru all the same proceedures and everything. oh well thought it was interesting and wanted to know a bit more about it. thanks

{Redneck}I used one of them there piezoelectric pickups on my diesel pick'emup truck inject-shun pump. {/Redneck}

It actually worked slick when used with a digital timing light... not that you can adjust timing with it like on a gasser or anything - but it was still cool.

The cool way to use one of those is on the dyno... they're easier (usually) to setup than a photoelectric pickup reading off the harmonic balancer.
