Howdy,
Bought a used 16 Laramie with 68K miles. Great shape and runs fine, though I did notice the main harness under the cab was off the frame. The engine looks new, but I really cant tell due to the shape of the truck. Other than calling the dealer, is their a way I can verify if a warranty engine has bene installed?

Thanks!

All it shows is six oil changes under a Chrysler maintenance service contract. Last was at 51k. Looks like it is a California truck so it should be clean.

Thanks Sag!,

Had seen that info as well, odd how a few chassis clips were off. I like the truck and am glad no record exists of a new engine! Hero status thus far..

Great. Great motor in many respects but they do have a higher than normal failure rate prior to reaching the 100k warranty expiration. Seems to almost always be a bottom end failure. Zero or hero fits.

Consider a tune such as GDE or PPEI. The reason is by turning EGR off you don’t have the hard soot particles in your oil that could get between a bearing & the crank. And with better regen strategies you have less chance of fuel dilution wherein you could have insufficient pure oil or lubrication between bearings & crank.

Also watch the coolant level in your degas aka overflow bottle. If your level slowly drops over time keep it to or above the seam otherwise your coolant will get low in the system. I lost a head gasket at least in part to this at 371k.

Last if you plan to keep her for years or to high miles get an inexpensive scan tool. Use it to get and clear codes when the check engine light comes on so you can take care of minor stuff at your convenience. Instead of it running you to the dealership, putting your truck in limp mode, or worse on the hook for a minor issue. Bosch OB 1000 is like $60 and is stone simple with two buttons. Fwiw I moderate over at the ram1500diesel forum have 440k on the truck and it’s still a joy to drive.

Thanks Vern,

Just got a used ECM for a GDE tune, purely in regards to the egr. Who ever had the truck before did a good job om maintaining. Always dealer done.

440k, wow..
