Competition What Really Matters

Competition Dunbar Dyno Record

Hey ive seen and heard of these and need to know how to play and win. This is where you hook up 2 trucks and see who can pull who backwards. I'd hate loosing and think this comes down to technique and not power. I have a six speed so does that mean it's pointless since I cant hold the brakes and build up boost to launch. Will I get my azz handed to me if I go against an auto reguardless of power and weight.

See my sig for truck details

Thanks

Glad you're back in the saddle after that insane wreck!

He who spins first looses from what I've read.

You can build boost and brake; practice with some 3rd gear launch burn outs. Three pedal it. . toe/heel the brake and go pedal. It's a lot easier with a softer shoe.

It's hard on the clutch...

I did this just last weekend, i also thought it was the first to spin loses but apparently not, i just let out the clutch in 1st low and let my tires spin until my buddy which has an auto let off his brakes, and as soon as he did i would drag him backwards. i really think this was due to the hopping his truck was doing which i think also caused him to break his front axle.

Weight is a big factor, if you can have your hitch (or attaching point) above his then it will equal better traction for you and less for him as it puts weight down on your wheels and lifts up on his. I see some ford clips where they had a reg cab ford pull around an extended cab dodge, it was very obvious they has alot of weight in the back of the ford, it was squatting signicantly. No way it would have done it otherwise.

To recap:

Weight/Traction > Power

You need a bed matt, or rug. Then get a 1" steel plate 4'X6', it'll weigh 960 lbs. , put it in the bed under the matt. Odds are very good your truck will not squat at all since the weight is not all behind the axle.

You'll win.

Only use big straps to hook with, chains are a big no no.

Good luck, RR

Hey I know a little about Tug A Wars... Iv'e been in a few. . Well let's just say I've only been pulled once!!! And there was a 2000lbs differnce in trucks. . He weighed 9500 and I weighed 7410. .

Are you planning on hooking on dirt or asphalt??

No plans set just want to be ready when it will happen.

So it sounds like use 4X4 LO and maybe 2nd and just romp on it sinch I dont have 3 feet or a DD clutch.

Most likely it will be on pavement

I did this on asphalt against a ford v10 standard. The guy was always rattin and ravin about how he could beat me at this so I showed up and he went over to where his buddy was digging a hole for a foundation and put a tampering attachment in the back of his bed, so I filled my air bags up to 90 psi and put my highest setting on my adjustable hitch and he came over and backed up to me. He decided to get about 4 foot from me and I let him tie us up. He then said that whoever waived their hand out the window meant stop. So I put it in 4 lo and we started and as I went I pietty much picked his truck up in the back and drug him do 10 feet while he spun them tires of his. So then he waived his hand and I slowly stopped and he only pushed in his clutch with no breaks and my hitch planted a huge crease in his tail gate. Never the less he felt defeated and ****** he didnt put on his breaks. NO DAMAGE HERE!

Good luck guys.

Weight is everything--unless you break. I'd go to 9 or 10k and use low range. Good luck. Pavement is a great way to break something.

i was at ruby tuesday one night with my friend drinking a little LOL. and his friend stop by always heard of him but never meet him ,we all started drinking pretty heavy and the trash talk started ,he said his f350excab would drag my dually around the building so out the door we went in the middle of dinner, he grab his logging chain and called me out, we hooked up, he had a tool box and fuel tank in the back. and a loaded bed of excavating crap. i had about 900lbs of sand bags for plowing. i put it in low and tightened up the chain i let him start he pulled me about two feet and then i let her go after about 80 ft i decided to stop ,the turn around the building was coming up. lets say it was funny to see a ford go backwards with his back tires stop spinning. he was lucky he didnt break anything. lets say dinner was free. god i wish i could have video that

hooking trucks is like 4wheeling just cant be scared let it go or dont do it at all!

One major advantage Dodges have over everyone else is their hitch height is over everyone else=leverage. Definitely on the dirt, 4 Lo 2nd gear. Be on the ball when they say go, its fun to brag about killing someone elses truck, especially when its a Power Stroke... :-laf

If your pulling on pavement use Low 1st. Don't dump your clutch either. Bring your RPM's up just enough so that you don't stall your truck out. . Try stay as low in your RPM'S that you can don't smash the throttle after the clutch is out. . You may even be able ride your clutch some since it's stock... The advantage you have with your stock clutch is that with your box on your clutch is more likely to slip and prevent you from breaking. . At least that's how it worked for me. . Also, air your tires down as low as you can get them. Street friendly tires are better for hooking on pavement than dirt. . Get as much tire on the ground as you possibly can. . MAKE EM SAG!!!! When you come off your clutch if your tires start to spin don't let off the throttle use your brakes to slow your wheel spin down. . I've pulled quite a few times everything I said here has always worked for me!!!! The more times you pull the more you learn. . Also make sure your the first on the throttle if the other guy has a standard. . If your quick you can catch him off guard and either stall him out off the go or you can take off with and break him!!! :-laf :-laf

Hope this helps if you need some more info or have any questions just ask...

Oo.

yep, the other guys are right, traction is the main thing you need to be worried about, most of the others will fall in behind once you get traction. also, go in the dirt, it is easier on your drivetrain

hope this helps

If you ever plan on hooking on dirt get yourself a good set of TSL Boggers!!! Don't be scared as long as you have a good set of traction bars. You can't beat Boggers on dirt!!! TRUST ME!!!! I've hooked plenty of times on dirt with them and have yet to break. . Thats where your stock clutch comes into play. . But on dirt however Tach the engine out and dump the clutch... Use Low Range 2nd gear. . Don't worry about wheel speed the boggers will take care of that!!!!!!!
