just bought a 95 3500 and need to get it home has a bad trans, i need to know how wide the front end is wheel to wheel with stock tires? hope it will fit on a dolly.

I don't know if it will fit on a dolly. At least not with the spacers and dually rims. I think you'll need to get your hands on a pair of rims for a SRW truck and take the spacers off, then install the wheels. Then, it should fit.

Where is the truck located? I should be home this weekend. Might be able to help you out, if I can get my hands on a trailer to pull with my dually. Or, if my boss won't care, I could maybe grab the drop deck with the KW. Just have you buy the fuel to come out and back.

I seem to remember that people were talking about there being some sort of risk to the trans or transfercase by towing it while having the back wheels still on the ground. Something to check into maybe.

my 2500 is 83-84 inches wide with the aftermarket rims and 285/75/16 tires i figured a dually would be narrower dut to the rims offset tucking the tire under the brake rotors? and i would have to pull the drive shaft you shouldnt tow any dodge with an auto with the drive shaft hooked up 2 wheel or 4.

Bmoeller, thanks for the offer but i am only off weds and thursday. the truck is in kansasville Wi. i got it from ebay.

basically all i need is someone with a stock tired dually to take a tape measure to their truck and tell me how wide it is from the outside of the left front tire to the outside of the right front tire, so i can see if it will fit on a u haul type dolly or get a trailer.

You're welcome.

The outside edge of the tire is inside of the edge of the rims. The fenders on the dolly may too narrow to clear. Removing the center caps and trim rings may be necessary as well.

I'll measure my truck tomorrow. The tape is at work.

They don't really fit on a U-haul type dolly. The wheel lugs are too wide for the dolly fenders and U-Haul will not rent you a dolly if you tell them your'e going to put a 1 ton dually on their equipment.

Now, saying that, I DID take one of their dollys and towed my '01 700 miles home from upstate NY. I had to take the fenders off the dolly wheels but the wheel lugs STILL rubbed on the tire sidewalls whenever I turned into a gas station. The truck I rented was a gasser with an Ally trans. Mileage sucked.

I DO NOT recommend this AT ALL. Use a buddy's gooseneck flatbed.

front tire with of my 96 3500 ram 5.9 tcd 5spd dually

the with from tire side wall to side wall is 87" :D and if you add in for the hub caps is 4" more each side that would be 96" hub cap end to hub cap end:D

how far are you gonna tow it??? whats wrong with the transmission???

you can tow w/o pullin drive shaft dependin how far ur goin?? if you have ?? on how to tow lemme know-i'm a tow truck operator. is it 4x4?? if so just put the 4wd shifter into "N" and ride.

i just sold my last tow truck last year, wish i didnt. the trans has only 1st and 2nd maybe reverse if you baby it. the truck fit on a borrowed trailer that was 16 feet long and 78 inches wide, but just barely. i did the haul today, not hard to get it up to speed, but stopping was a whole different story. 55-75 mph all the way.

I never measured the 95 when I had it, but my 05 is 80" between outside of front tires. Add 2 3/4" for the wheel lugs on each side for a total of 5 1/2". Overall is 85 1/2".

When the trans went out on my 98 dually, I was able to put it on a standard car trailer. I took off one of the rear duals on each side and threw them in the bed. Also the idea of removing the wheel spacer in the front end is a good idea. You'll then have the same as a 2500 (it doesn't use the spacer). You may also be able to turn the front wheel around with the dish on the outside and spacer off and still gain some wideth reduction.

the front end is narrower than my 2500 by 4 inches with the adapters and dually rims, and i did remove the outside rear rims so they didnt overhang the trailer.
