Smarty 3G software update??

Hello from Dodgetrucksteering.com

I would love to see just a bit less sensitivity at light throttle. With big sticks and an auto, I cannot achieve lockup in my trans until about 50mph in Drive. This is with the APPS adjusted to full advance. In OD, this is not an issue.

Posibly Marco can help us with that? Or is there a posibility of an AUTO program that can allow user controlled input values for APPS voltage or percentage? This would allow lockup at a lower mph and help keep the trans cool.

BTW, my daily setiing is no higher than 5 in the warm weather and 7 in the cool. I do this for lower smoke and better diveability on cruise. For long trips, I go timing only.

1) Be able to disable the high idle feature in smarty!

2) Eliminate the speed limiter! I want to be able to limit my top speed by that skinny little pedal that my right foot rest on! Lets getter done... ... ... ... .

I have an odd request. I would like to see the smarty be able to apply updates to the stock software. That way I could do TSB's to stock trucks that have problems in my area. This would save a trip to the dealer and make life easier for us bombers.

For instance, my brother just bought a 99 that needs the winter fuel flash for stalling when it goes in gear. I know the software is in there, I just can not give it to him.

I would like to see the lower settings, 1-3, tamed a little bit. I love the power, but for daily driving they are a little rough. I would like to see them tweaked a little to be more conducive to daily driving, stop and go traffic, towing and cruise control use. Maybe bring back a little more torque management to ease wear and tear on the transmission. As for the higher settings, leave them crazy for the high mod high horse/torque fans. My personal favorite is setting 1. My truck runs much smother, the way it should have been from the factory. With the above changes, especially throttle sensitivity; settings 1-3 would be perfect for the stock or near stock trucks.

Love the Smarty,

Sid

Less fuel at low boost.

I think this is a bigger issue on manuals than it is on autos. A torque converter lets the engine rev a bit with less load, which I think gets the turbo spinning quicker. With a manual, you have more load at lower RPM = smoke.

I'm very sensitive about making smoke and have learned to feather the throttle ever so gently when taking off from a stop. With just 90-hp sticks, level 9 is out of the question as it bothers me too much to not be able to drive smoke-free. I only use level 8 in cold weather where the denser air offsets the extra fuel for more complete burning.

I have to give some credit to Edge's concept of Level/Sub-level, where you can run more fuel but have it come in at higher boost. But I'm not in the mood to tap the wire on my new fuel injection pump.

All in all, the Smarty is very satisfying, just wish I didn't have to be so careful with my right foot.

The added fueling is an issue with us auto guys as well. A stock auto is pretty loose, but the built autos can make it tough to drive as well.

And going back to my previous post, less low throttle sensitivity would make it easier for us auto guys to get into lockup. Even with an advanced APPS, I cannot hit lockup in drive until 50 MPH+ It will lockup sooner if I use a bit more pedal. But, as soon as I lift to regulate to a legal speed (45mph) it unlocks and stays unlocked.

I am gonna wear out my lockup switch at this rate! :laf:

I would love to see lockup occur at a little lower APPS voltage when used with the Smarty. And this level could be program specific. How about a tip in/ tip out APPS adjustment for all trucks that works like the ABS function?

Is that even possible?

Dave

I don’t know if this is a Smarty issue or stock ECM issue? But, my 48re does the super quick 1st to 2nd shift, (Level 1) while running Smarty. I'll be at a stop sign, give a little throttle to pull away, be under 5 mph and my transmission will shift to 2nd. Even with very moderate throttle it will shift from 1st even quicker. How do I get my transmission to hold the gears a little longer? Is this an ECM issue or just the way the 48re’s run. I’m looking at upgrading my transmission, but is this a hardware or electronic issue?

Marco, can Smarty fix this?

Thanks

Sid

I think you can do that...

1. Return your truck to stock with Smarty.

2. Program your brother's truck with a non-stock program (e. g. #9).

3. If he lets you, return your brother's truck to stock.

4. Return your truck to the Smarty program you used before (1) above.

The Smarty's "stock" software has all of the current updates, so returning your brother's truck to "stock" in (3) doesn't set it back to its original programming - it sets it to the Smarty's idea of "stock".

From the FAQ at MADS Electronics:

Q. Which version of "stock" will the Smarty come with.

Smarty does NOT download the complete original software from the ECM and does not store it into it's memory. That is for a simple reason. The protocol in the ECM does not allow to read the flash memory.

How can Smarty then return to stock? Simple he has all the latest stock softwares already on board. When you choose to return the truck back to stock, Smarty takes the stock software from it's memory and updates the ECM with that software.
