An acquaintance of mine had his 1999 Ram 1500 stolen from his workplace. It was no more than 20 yards from his window. There was no broken glass so I guess they jimmied the lock or used a slim jim to get in. Does this model year have any kind of factory installed anti-theft device? I know that on my 2001 CTD if the door is locked and the window down if I reach in and pull up on the lock the alarm will sound.

According to the cops this is the 3rd Ram stolen in a fairly short time. Time to get a Boomerang tracking system installed.

Thats another downfall to these trucks, anyone with a coat hanger and a few seconds of time can get into them. My '99 had a remote keyless entry, but no anti-theft device, unlike my '01 which has a factory alarm (not sure if it's worth a hoot though). A self installed kill switch would be a good idea, IMO

Being stupid I locked the keys in the ignition, engine running, at my old workplace. One of the mechanics came out with a coat hanger and had the passenger door open in about 3 seconds..... seriously, 3 seconds.

 :--)

I'm going to start putting my Autolock on everytime I get out and leave it running with the doors locked. 3 seconds!!! CRAP!!! :(

yep, same thing here, locked my keys in it running, went inside to call my wife, and one of the mechanics at work said - waitaminit, we have a slimjim. Went out to the truck and about five seconds later, I was in. So yeah, with that and a set of stolen master keys from the dealer (yes there are only maybe twenty different keys made for your truck... . ) they are less than a minute away from driving away... .

I try to keep valuables out of it and pay my insurance premiums. I'm lucky, where I live is pretty safe plus I have a poochie-poochie alarm. Now if I drive it to work, well it could get gone fairly easy. I've always thought of putting a hidden toggle inline with the clutch start switch. Toggle it off, and it won't crank. 'Course that wouldn't help if I had left it running.
