Well, I've been a member of the TDR for a while now, but just yesterday I went and bought my first 12-valve. It's a 95 2500 2wd CC LWB 5spd with 84000 miles on it, so I guess I'll be hanging out over here from now on. :D

I'm planning to kill the kdp this weekend and change all fluids, hoses, and the belt but since this is my first 12-valve I wondered if anyone had any advice or recommendations to make my life easier once I start turning wrenches.

Thanks,

Mike

Congrats on the truck Mikel, just what I have been LOOKING FOR!!!!! I have the exact truck with auto. If you plan on BOMBing this one, go straight to the twins. It will save you money in the long run.

Did you get rid of your 24 valve??

My buddies 97, 4x4, 12 valve, went 13. 93 with typical 12 valve mods, but now is up against not having enough air (even with a Piers HX-40). He wishes he would have gone with the twins FIRST.

I'll explain more at the next meeting or when I see you next.

Hey,

I still have the '01 for now, I'm going to swap over everything that will fit and sell the rest. Then I'll sell the '01.

I don't think the financial director will let me spend the $$ on twins, but I do intend to 'warm it up' some. Right now I'm thinking I'll get the timing set and go with a 3k GSK and whatever is the largest plate that the stock clutch will hold.

What's your buddy going to do with that 40? :D

Mike

Welcome to the 12v world. You didn't say how you were going to deal with the KDP, but if you pull the cover to access the dowel pin, consider checking timing while you're in there.

A bit of research using the search function will yield some useful info on how. I didn't take advantage of the opportunity when I did my KDP, sure wish I had.

Someone may pipe up with a different opinion, but I suspect that if you were mechanically inclined and had a dial indicator (either metric, or did the metric to English conversion) you could check/change timing rather easily with the cover off.
