Hey... just wanted to say hello... looks like I'll be hanging around for a while, looking forward to gaining a fair diesel education in here and maybe make a few friends along the way!

Just installed a high flow air filter/intake... . no longer a virgin! One question... I bought gauges from Geno's Garage and included was a fuel pressure gauge, 15 psi limit... does that seem a little low???

There are lots of threads to read on fuel pressure issues with the 24 valve VP-44 powered trucks. But in summary, you are going to want to see a consistent 14-15 psi post filter fuel pressure at idle, to ensure proper flow rate to the head of the injection pump. You never want to see the pressure drop close to zero under load. It has been determined that low fuel pressure is a leading cause of VP-44 failure due to fuel starvation/overheating of the fuel lubricated injection pump. (Please take some time to search the 24 valve engine/transmission section of the forum for more information)

I personally run a 30 psi gauge. I don't know if I would want to be reading a gauge, on a consistent basis, that hopefully would be at or near its maximum range. Though, the 15psi unit would still indicate when your fuel pressure drops, which is our area of concern.

Don't you over-valved guys also want to run an aftermarket lift pump for insurance? At least for high-performance applications?

I'm taking a guess at the meaning of your "handle" swmnkdinthervr:

Swimmin kid in the river?

Swim naked in the riviera?

Single white male nicely kidding if not telling his every rare valve ratio? (whew! )

Oh yea. . almost everyone in this local area is running a FASS or FASS II at this point. The factory lift pump was thrown in the trash well before 20K on my '01. There are lots of opinions out there on the best solution, but the FASS has worked well for me.

:p All of the above... I've often spelled it: SwmNkdInTheRvr... (every rare valve ratio :-laf ) I'm gonna relocate the stock pump for now...
