 Ex-Clevelander moves to the Great Pacific Northwest, trades his Lightning for a mountain machine... more at 11. :D :D :D

I couldn't take it anymore, I got about 5400 miles on the truck (see sig) and had to join in. I have been reading intently for months. I had a few things to say, but mostly wanted to just say Hi:p

I was sticking out like a soar thumb with my city ride here in the Columbia River Gorge, Washington side. I laughed at all these diesel heads out here. I'm still laughing, but that's because I'm one too now. Figured if ya can't beat'em, join'em. ! No, I don't mean in a qtr mile:p I was a driver/operator years ago, in a former life so I am pretty comfy with diesels. Where did the glow plugs go? Nevermind, I'm just glad they are gone. When I did drive there were only 3 real motor choices; the screaming, no-bottom end, two-cycle, oil spewing detroits; the very expensive, clattering, powerhouse cats, and the best truck motor, IMHO, Cummins. Everything you could want, and usually a little more. I can't believe I own one, lol.

So that's a little about me, no flaming intended by the way. I do need to get a little more air to my engine, I liked the MAC look, but reviews here S:mad: cked. I guess AFE is the TDR choice, or is it??? I need a tonnaue before I look at a chip/box, but the intake I can do now. Everybody think AFE is the best bet??? Any ideas on where to pick one up, relatively inexpensively?

I appreciate any thoughts and look forward to jumping in now and again. ;)

Welcome RedDieselDawg! I'm an ex-Northeast Ohioan, relocated to Northwest Pa. A big 7 miles away from Ohio - wow!

Anyway, glad you could make it!

As far as the air cleaner, you'll get all kinds of opinions here. Personally I am going with a washable Amsoil unit in the stock box with a big hole cut in the bottom and a PVC elbow glued in. This is per Amsoilman's recommendation. Later I may try what we call a BHAF - which is a factory air cleaner from a farm tractor, semi, or stationary engine, that is bigger than the stock Dodge unit and will breath much better, and is off the shelf and easy to replace without bothering with the washable units.

Do some searches and you'll find lots of info on air filters.

Take care,

Blake

Hey,

Thanks, I'll do a few searches and see what I find. Always good to talk to a fellow Buckeye. I don't miss the winter though, 70 and sunny here. Do you get any deals on pennzoil now that you're in Steal er country? :D Thanks again.

Welcome aboard. Check out the Volant. I have a buddy that has one, and is very happy with it. I am looking at it as well as the aFe. One or the other will end up on my ride.

R. D. D: Welcome - both to the PNW and the TDR. I just finished installing my AFE PG7 a few minutes ago. Got it from City Muffler and Performance for 250 including shipping. If you look over on the DieselTruckResource.com, in the Dodge section, you'll find a recent thread in the 3rd Gen Performance section on pricing of the AFE's

I like the AirRaid system, a tad cheaper 4 filter layers instead of the 7 that AFE has, great results over 43,000 miles with no problems. had a diesel mechanic look over the turbo intake and he said its clean as a whistle (black-glove wipe ;intake tube; followed by a white glove wipe ) clean both ways. haven't done a oil test but I change the oil filter every 6,000 miles. Buy the Fleetgauard stratapores form Genos' with teh two fuel filters for $58.

So hope that gets ya going...

Thanks for the feedback, and welcome. I looked at the Bombers site once, I'll be checking back. I like the Volant system appearance, I'll have to look at them all again.

Actually I boycott Pennzoil now. It's not the same old good oil it used to be anyway. Pennzoil merged with Quaker State, moved to Texas and then got bought up by Shell. Then they closed all their Pennsylvania refineries. The Rouseville refinery near Oil City is being torn down right now. Ever since they did that I won't buy "Pennzoil" or "Quaker State".
