ok i could really use some advice bought our 99 3500 5spd at 70,000 miles has 234,000 now has developed a howl. It starts at 50mph and gets worse up to 65. Haven't pushed it past that changed all u-joints and carrier bearing. replaced rear grease with lucas 75-140 nothing helped. can't find anything that gives or has play but did find one thing. When going around a sweeping right curve the noise left. Naturally this meant more curves both left and right only loses thenoise on right curves. nothing is getting hot i evan put it up on stands and ran it at speed. I've changed tires but nothing has helped but right curves and nascar turns left. any ideas on do i start a race career in england? truck is basically stock no power upgrades but wife remembers that former owner repaired rearend [mentioned to her when she picked it up] which was born out while changing fluid [has one orange bolt and blue silicon for seal] any ideas? craig

I'd be leaning toward a wheel bearing on the right side. As you go around a right turn the weight would shift to the outside (left) side of the truck and the inside (right) would get lighter. Is your truck 4x4 you didn't say?

howling still

sorry it is 2wd and that is the next thing. The fronts have been rebuilt about a month ago. I lost an outer bearing without any warning and had to cut the inner race off. that was on the left side theright was repacked the haven't had the rear hubs off yet but i guess it is time. This has been a pretty good truck except the deer around here have tried to take it out 3 times. Last time 2 at once. think maybethe p-stroke guys are training them. lol :-laf craig '99 2wd 3500 fass 246,000 and counting

solved sort of

sorry for the long time things got a little crazy in foaling time plus all the rain. Anyway the solution was the transmission rear mount the darn thing was ripped half apart. the left side was the side tore but you could not see anything wrong untill pried on. I owe some one a thanks , their post from '04 had a noise like mine that was the mount. The darn thing still looks good untill it is pried upon out of the truck. now that i'm checking things the tailstock gets hot a lot faster than the rest of the trans. this running empty. I'm wondering if it flexing has damaged the tailstock. it's a 99 2wd 3500 does anyone knowif it is a bushing or bearing? Some other posts have mentioned that pulling in 5th can damage it. anyway thanks for the site it is always more info than i cannot do without. :)craig 99 3500 2wd drive fass
