How Do You Get Even With These Co-Workers?

February 26, 2005

LYNDEN - For some reason, I don't think a whoopee cushion is going to be enough of a payback on this one.

Canadian police closed down the Aldergrove border crossing at Lynden Friday evening after border agents found a suspicious device on a car trying to enter Canada.

As agents were doing a routine search of the car, they found a crude metal tube, thought to be a potential explosive, located under a seat in the car.

Police evacuated the area, including the duty free store, shut down the border in both directions and brought in the bomb squad.

Upon further review, it turned out to be a harmless tube filled with metal ball bearings. Apparently, some of the driver's co-workers in Olympia thought it'd be funny to hide the tube under a seat so it would create a rattle in the car that would be difficult to locate.

The border was reopened around 8 p. m. , the driver was released without charges and the agents probably had a good story to tell their fellow agents over coffee.

As for the driver, one can only imagine what he might do to top that when he gets back to work. Snakes in a can?
