Just took delivery of a new 2500 4x4 at work yesterday and as I was doing a pre deployment inventory of the truck, I discovered that it came from the factory with, get this, three Michelin LTX A/S radials and two LTX M/S. Guess the guys that put the tires on need to go back to kindergarten and learn their alphabet. Granted, the rumor with state bid trucks is that they are built with leftover parts, but this is silly. At least they're the same size all around. This happen to anyone else?

Yo Ranger Dick
My truck came with five AS tires and had good luck with them... The spare has never been on the ground so thought I would simply buy three AS tires. . No Luck. Was told by severel michilen dealer these tires are discontinued... were built for DC
The AT tire has a dia of 30. 8 while the AS has a dia of 39. 6

Sorry about the missprint, the Dia of the AS is 30. 6

Am curious... . of you guys whose trucks suffer major snafu's, where were they built? I just wonder if we can establish a pattern.

This work truck is from mexico. Its a 2500 Cab and Chassis 360 Gasser. My personal CTD is from St. Louis. I've heard good and bad about both build Locations. I don't know what we paid for it, nor have I seen the factory invoice, but in years past, State Bid Trucks that we have bought in CA have been around $16,000 for the Cab and Chassis. We always end up with a Utility box on the back. Overall, I can't complain about the 2nd Gen Rams we have at work, especially compared to the fords, chebys, and gmc's that we have gotten. The magnum 360 is by far the best motor. and Live Axles are great for off roading. But nothing in the fleet compares to the Cummins.

Oh man, this isnt what I want to be hearing. I just checked the UP website and my truck and railcar have been placed at the delivery lot, should have it in the next couple of days. Ive been going crazy waiting for it, I even drove to the lot (about 15 minutes) to see if I could see it before it goes to the dealer. I placed down all my pennies, and dimes to purchase this truck, and plan on keeping it for quite a while. I hope it is a nicely built and reliable as my dakota is/was.

Hey JoelPry

I'm in the same boat as you, waiting for my Ram to get to the dealer. How were you able to check on the UP website if your truck was on the delivery lot?

the good news is your in a fairly mild climate... different tred patterns IS NOT a good thing on 4x4. . [it can swap ends under the right conditions]. . If I were you I would scream to the dealer to correct this. .

Ranger Dick,
How much off road is this truck going to be doing? Michelin LTX AS tires are road (highway) tires the Michelin LTX M/S is mostly road tire with more agressive tread design giving it some off road capability.
The LTX AT is their best off/on road (aggressive) tire for LTX series.

When I went looking for LTX M/S tire in 265 size they were hard to find kept trying to sell me the AS. Finally e-mailed Michelin from their web site. They called a day later left message it would be about three weeks they were just starting production again. But my tire dealer had them in that week finally.

Here is the web page address for Michelin(for tire selection). Just type info into boxes. If they got the tire it will be on one of their charts. The AS is still there. http://michelin. tireselector.com/

SA Law, you can get a hold of DC through the 800 number, they will give you a rail car number, then you can track it through www.uprr.com under public trace option, In my case when it said that the car was delivered at industry, that meant it was on the delivery lot. I have a friend who is a cop in Council Bluffs (a town nearby) and he told me where the lot is.

P. S there are posts on here that explain the actual process of getting a hold of DC

Mule, I drive from 30-50% off road in this truck. Yeah, I'll be giving DC an earful, and hopefully, I get a set that matches. Since the build date was 5/00, I ended up with 245's instead of 265's. I know that the AS are not as good, but I have to wear them out before I can get TKO's. Company policy. I use this truck as a Ranger patrol vehicle, and drive all the interior trails with them. Sometimes it doesn't matter what tires I have, when the muds too deep and truck too heavy I just don't attempt it. Thanks for the input.

I took delivery of my Mexico built truck (first digit in the vin... . 3 for Mexico, 1 for St. Louis)

You should have seen the look on the dealers face when I whipped out my Fritz 9 page checklist. Had them park the truck out in the open, and told them I'd be in to sign the final papers when I was done.

I was absolutely amazed at the fit and finish of this truck. I am a recovering street rodder who has hung around more than one show car builder. No loose bolts, etc.

So, to tie this to the point of this post. The only thing I found was the truck came with three 245/75/16's and one 265/75/16. The spare was a 245, also. I laughed because I poured in the Redline 85+ and drove it off the lot 2 miles and had 285/75/16's mounted on Weld Outbacks.

I'm very happy so far.

Hey - My 2001, (which I picked up last July - now I have 31,000 on her - absolutely no trouble at all (cross my fingers)) had michelin tires and I swear that they were made out of Art Gum!!! You know those old rectangular gum erasers. At 12,000 they were 50% gone!!! I replaced them immediately with a Cooper Tire that Les Schwaub sells - called Mud Terrain. I went up to 265's, E rated. I have almost 20,000 on these and they still have 13 thousands left. They'll go at least 40,000, and that's great with the tread they have. Quiet and fantastic traction. Also they will hold their pattern throughout the entire treadlife - something a lot of tires today will not do.

My ,01 ETH DEE now has 22,000 miles and still waiting for the very first prob of any nature---(dealer did call after I had had it about 2 weeks to tell me the new dash trim was in???? I asked what trim??? they explained that in the pre delivery check they had noticed a small nick in the dash trim and had ordered a new one. I went out and looked where they said and sure nuff there was a VERY small nick that I doubt I would ever have noticed/. The only service it has had other than add ons and fluids etc.
The michelins are still at least 50 to 60 % yet.

Hard to complain about DC quality

Ooops! that should have been 20200 miles, but about 4500 of those miles were at a gross weight of 19K, and somewhere aroung 20 miles with that load on 11% grade. (not entirely intentionlly)

Vaughn
