It's difficult to provide helpful information without knowing the year of your truck. Why don't you fill in your signature?
I don't remember ever hearing or reading about a 24 valve engine using a VP-44 pump that was only rated at 215hp for use in a Dodge. I remember them being rated at 235hp in the SO version and 245hp in the HO.
The first HO engine was offered in '01 as the HO six speed. It was rated 245hp and 505 tq. The injection pump and computer are primarily used by Cummins to determine power output but the HO engines used pistons with oil cooling jets, slightly lower compression, and possibly other internal parts to make them reliable and durable under the higher power ratings.
