Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) fuel line thingy

What kind of horsepower should I be getting on the ground with a stock truck? My truck is a 1995 and the book says it should have about 160 hp. A guy worked on my pump today and said he would give me about 50 more horsepower and after all the pump adjustment it only showed about 153 hp on the dyno. Is that 160 hp on the ground or at the engine?

Look at the tag on the timing cover, that will tell you what the HP is for that engine, that would be at the crank, rear wheel HP will be different by about 20% I think some one else will correct me if iI'm wrong.

"Mr. Blue" is right! The "160 H. P. " rating on your engine

is at the flywheel or crank. As he said, you lose about

20-25% when you measure it at the rear wheels.

I recall a stock automatic with a 180 pump dyno at 140hp ( 4x4 also ). Thats a little over 20%. Manuals should be less maybe 15% or so. Also 4. 10 versus 3. 55 will make a little difference. 2x4 versus 4x4, etc.

Overflow Valve Location

Stand in front of the truck looking at the pump. On the top of the pump you see fuel lines that go into the delivery valves. On the front of the pump on the left side as you look at it, you will see a banjo fitting and a fuel line going from it. That is the location of the valve. I believe mine to be bad for some of the same reasons you posted. I plan to test some pressures first, but expect the solution will be getting a new valve. They are $54. 00 at Cummins N. W. in Portland. I also believe Piers sells them also.
