getting new hrvp44. stock truck no mods 120,000 auto 2001 4x4 qc . going to get pyro, fuel turbo gauges after market air filter for sure my questions are do i need to modify exhaust or any thing else for theses mods ? also looked at the injector install istallation on site is that good for 2001 or just 98. 5-2000 and if i put in 50hp injectors what would need to be done to truck for safe and proper use dont want to hurt truck . i know these are comon ? but did not see this one in threads maybe over looked thanks doug

Doug, easy there.

You just put a 700 horsepower plus fuel pump on your rig.

I can hear your auto transmission screaming for mercy from here :{

Maybe talk to a couple of hot transmission tuners (DTT, ATS ,Suncoast... . ) before you do anything else.

The injection pump is the heart of the diesel engine, and those HRVP 44 are some bad@$$ units.

You'll be fine with the stock exhaust. I have Mach 2 injectors, HRVP44, and a comp and I still can maintain managable EGT's. I don't put a lot of stock in exhausts (pun intended), but I do acknowledge their benefits, I just don't need them yet.

When I tow heavy I sure do though! I'm just waiting for mine to rust off, I probably have a year maybe 2 left to wait.

I know several guys that are running HRVP44's on lightly or unmodded trucks, you'll be fine. When you start talking injectors and timing boxes though, you're transmission sure isn't going to like you.

Oh yeah those instructions for the injector install are good till 2002. I used them when I did mine, after doing it once you'll see how easy it really is. Know real special tools needed, a stubby wrench helps for the #6 injector. Good luck and ask away, tons of knowledge and experience on this board.

thanks for the advise maybe i will just add the pump for now. is the pump really going to make it 700 hp that seems like to much hp for me dont want to tear the truck up just make it run good and stiil be very reliable .

havent got my first tdr book yet would like to see a meeting in this area [mich ] that way i can see some mods and how they work first hand thanks doug

Your not going to make 700 hp. Doug hrvp is a good unit I have heard people say gives you 30 more horses heard others say it give you 80 more. I have one and I do know it works good, how many horsepower I don't know. If you are thinking you want injectors I would do it at the same time as the pump because you will have all the fuel lines out of the way. Both pump and injectors are easy to install, just take your time. Is your truck an automatic or a stick? I you may want to get some kind of boost fooler and a new elbow for your waste gate ecspecially if you do pump and injectors.

auto . now you say a boost fooler and a new elbow for my waste gate is this to make more hp or to run cooler ? with the auto i dont want to go crazy hps i dont need it to blow yet . got to drop $2,000 in gauges and pump plus posible inj . this help is super thanks doug

With your new found fuel you could use a little more boost. This can be accomplishied be a boost elbow or in your case since you have an auto you would need a j hook for your wastegate. The boost fooler plugs into your map sensor and will not let the computer see more boost than a stock level which I think for your truck is 19. 4 psi roughly. Somthing that might also help you out would be to find a good used hx-35 of a manual trans truck, this will keep you a little cooler, can be had pretty cheap usually and is a direct fit. The HY-35 you have is pretty small and will be maxed out quickly. As for the exhaust would say at the very minimum get rid of the stock muffler ecspecially if your worried about egts. But I really think you ought to look into a good 4 in. system because anymore there pretty cheap, usually several on ebay for as little 300 bucks. As long as you can keep your foot out of it your stack transmission will last a while but should be thinking of some transmission upgrades in the future. Just my opinion I have just learned from the past on these trucks do it right the first time or you'll be kicking yourself in the but down the road.

i agree with do it once do it right . i work cnc maintenance and the people i work try to cut corners and it always bites them. but then again so have i . now you talk of a hx-35 what is this ? j hook? this extra boost will not hurt anything with a boost fooler ? are all these mods going to kill my milage thanks doug

All this shouldn't kill your milage beyond what injectors and hrvp will do. The hx-35 is a slightly larger turbo than the one on your truck. It comes on trucks like yours but with a standard transnission. It can efficiently flow more are than your stock turbo. If you do decide to increase your boost pressure using the things I told you about your hy-35 will become quite restrictive and inefficient at higher boost pressures, this causes the egts to rise. The hx-35 and hy-35 have types of lines going to the wastegate actuator, the hx is a silicone rubber line, the hy is a hard metel line(so you cannot just screw in a boost elbow) the j hook mounts externally to the wastegate actuator to limit its amount of travel. Which enables you to build more boost. The reason I told you about switching to an hx-35 is because they are easy to aquire for a good price, there are a lot of them out there, it is by no means a high performance turbo, but is a ok cheap fix for your situation if you don't increase you fueling much beyond what you stated. Hope this helps.

Oh, and the boost fooler just limits the voltage signal going to the ecm from the map sensor, causing it to aleways think boost is under what the factory says is ok. I suspect with what you are going to do if you cranked up the boost a little bit you will see around 28-35 psi, which is well below what you can safely run without worrying about head gasket and dependability.

thanks . found boost fooler 70$ now you say i need a j hook$ . and also what is an exceptable ext temp while running and what is unsafe seen in one thread 350 is safe to turn off but didnt say safe running temp thanks doug

I run 1300* max for no more than one minute.

1200* max sustained on a hard pull. Believe Cummins recommendation is 1300-1350* max.
