Wastegate diagnosis??

I am running a HTB2 62/14 on my truck and have had a lot of low boost codes. I also have some problems creating any boost down low towing because of the low RPM's caused by my 35" tires and 3. 73 gears.

I have been advised by some people to maybe go down to a 62/12 and that would help with creating boost when towing.

My other question that I really need to know is: Will this get rid of my "Low Boost Code"?

so you have the bypass plug installed where the factory electronic wastegate is controlled. I have a silver bullet and have never seen a low boost code. I made my own bypass plug

Do you tow? I only see it when towing. I think it doesn't like seeing the low boost when there is a load and it then throws the truck into limp mode.

I also have read that the 04. 5 and newer trucks are more prone to the problem.

If you search for P0299 on here you will see quite a few threads on it.

O. K. so I am real close to taking this off and putting the stocker back on. I have to get this solved before my trip to Yellowstone.

One thing I have read and Rip wanted me to try is taking the electronic wasegate actuator off of the stock turbo and plugging it in and then zip tying it out of the way.

Who out there has tried this and has it worked for you.

My 62/12 Sps 62 Does It To - And I Have A Boost-fooler Hooked Up - Does It Once A Month Weather I Am Towing Or Not - Its A Pain In The @#!^%&* To Say The Least -

Have you tried using the electronic WG actuator off of the stock turbo?

I remember reading Justin Williams (JWilliams3) doing this and he still had the same problems. Like I said before, its not the actuator causing the problem it has nothing to do with it.

I still think that you may have problems with a smaller turbine housing but it will be less prone to do it. You just have to hit that certain sweet spot the ECM doesnt want to see.

Finally someone that knows what they are talking about.

Guys the 0299 pops up with aftermarket turbos when the moon and stars align.

Obviously with the newer trucks you will have either the actuator from the stock turbo or the "plug-in" resistor installed to satisfy the ECM that the OEM solenoid is there, but this item is not the problem.

Going to a smaller turbine housing could cure the problem but its not a gaurantee but probably less likely to re-occur.

I used to get the low boost 0299 code frequently when I ran a 66sps turbo. I never got the code running a B1 (62mm) or the current Aurora 5000... . for some reason the ECM didnt like the 66.

I always had the stock solenoid valve plugged into the harness (and still do).

Just keep a programmer with you in the truck to clear the codes. I used to use my BD power pup to clear the 0299. I still carry a programmer just in case a 299 decides to pop back up(Smarty).

I have got the code every time I tow and it is very annoying. All the way to the point I may put the stock turbo back on.

Maybe Marco could fix this with the Smarty.

I sure wish, but I think I remember Bob Wagner saying he couldn't.

It has something to do with it being something in the ECM that takes a lot of paramaters for the code to throw.

Someone asked the question on one of the boards if Marco could just eliminate the P0299 code out of the ECM completely and I don't know if I ever heard from either Bob or Marco.
