How long did your STOCK turbo last with TST/EDGE setup?

All I can say is :--) and then :D . This turbo is awesome. I am going to wait another day or two till I play hard with it, but after 150 miles I am seriously impressed. It seems to handle the TST rather good from what I see so far. Spool up is very fast. Sound is great also.

Total install was performed by Scott at Renegade Diesel Performance. He had a chance to install the smaller version on a buddy's truck the other week. He also has had some very good results and is very pleased so far.

Bottom line is HTT has a very nice product that I am sure I will be happy with. Hopefully in a couple days I will get a chance to hook to the trailer and see how it works for towing. :D

How much did this unit cost? What did it cost to install it??? Glad to hear that your happy with it... How are EGTS compared to the stock turbo???

sweet!

imills - any pictures of install? im definately going to be getting this turbo, although i have a correctly valved truck, i might talk my dad into getting one for his 04. 5.

The turbo was $1315 shipped. Then we had to buy some misc pipe bends and adapters to modify the downpipe. They added up to $115. So the turbo came in at $1430 to our door. I paid $300 for the install.

As for the install it wasn't to bad, but was a little time consuming since a couple nuts/bolts were frozen on from my truck being used as a plow truck in the winter. Once the turbo was off, the install seemed to have gone pretty smooth.

Now for the things that had to be done to fit a 3rd gen. The downpipe had to be custom fabbed with mandrel bent elbows. I had to cut the bottom out of my AFE air box, but that was not a big loss in my book. Now I have more unrestricted fresh air. The drain back connection had to be modded very slightly, not a very big deal either. Everything esle just went together.

I did notice that HTT is now offering a downpipe a outlet adapter for the compressor side of the turbo. So the turbo might be a total bolt on application now. The compressor outlet adapter will probably allow you to do the install without having to modify your air box. It is a tight fit, but fits and works very well.

I will post some pictures later tonight. Gotta go play!

lmills thanks for the update. . This sounds like a must for me. . How are the egts compared to your stock turbo. . Plz keep us posted. . Thanks

Sorry I didn't get the pics posted today. I had a family emergency that took me out of state for 7 hours. I will post them tomorrow. ;)As for the EGT's, they are a lot better. I have put 575 miles on the turbo since yesterday afternoon. So needless to say it should be well broke in. I spent almost 2 hours running the mountains on I-68 with my boxes turned off to see how the turbo would react with no additional fuel to push it. It did really well. With the lack of extra fuel to spool the turbo, I had to put my foot in it a little more than nromal and the EGT's were a little higher than the normal, but they were still around 1,000-1,100 climbing the 6% grades. I will post more info as I get it. Cya

As you can see in the above pictures, it's a tight fit with the factory fresh air tube. The intercooler pipe is almost against the grid heater relays, then the intake tube is against that, the intake piping is against the heat shield on the exhaust. An AFE torque tube should take care of that issue.

Here are some shots of my buddy's turbo install. He went with the smaller HTB2 turbo. He doesn't seem to have the clearance issues with his combo that I had with mine. Notice how much more room he has between the intake hose and the exhaust and intercooler pipe.

lmills how does your turbo compair to your freinds.

Like spool up rpm

cruising egt empty

boost empty cruising say 70 mph

if truck are the same can you tell if their is more cooling with the killerb2

I have the smaller HTB2 mine starts spool great at 1450 rpm

cruising egt empty 70 mph is around 750

boost empty @ 70 mph is around 8 psi

by the way this is on a 2nd gen truck.

I am looking for just a little more cooling but don't want to give up how well it spools or how well it pulls a trailer now. This is the best my truck has ever run and I would hate to screw up the quickness of a daily driver for just a little more cooling when MOST of the time I never see 1300... ... what do I do  I guess my question is how much more of a pig is your turbo then your firends.

thank for any help

chris

I can only tell you this much, it ain't no slouch. ;) It spools extremely fast. It's kind of hard to compare our's. He is running a lot lighter vehicle with 3. 73's and has an auto. Mine is a 6 speed with 4. 10's. I don't know if my results would be the same on his auto eqipped truck or not. I do know that my cruising EGT's are basically the same as they were with the stock turbo. No boost at 55 mph equals about 650-700*. His smaller turbo is running around 900-950* at the same speed. However when he thru a load on it(5,000 lb trailer) the turbo was being pushed more and the EGT's were actually lower with a load than running empty. He is thinking about switching to the larger compressor and wheel once we do a little more checking into it. I will get some EGT and boost numbers goig to work tomorrow. I do know mine are lower than his. I can tell you this much, I see barely any black smoke when the TST box comes on at level 7. So it has to be a large improvement.

Whats the highest combined chip(s) power level you have run at? and what readings have you seen WOT?

BTW Great info keep us informed!

My understanding (from Paul @ HTT) is that the Killer comes with a wastegated 14cm and the standard you have your choice of the wastegated 12 or 14. He also said the 12 flows like a Holset 14 and the 14 flows like a Holset 16. I believe he has some non wastegated options too but I didn't pay much attention to those

Mine is due in on Thursday Oo. Oo.
