Gonna dyno again!!!

Question about Gear Vendor?

Anyone know off hand or can go look at their htb2 either on the truck or off/not installed etc and tell me which way the rod sits- be it towards the engine or towards the passenger side tire... . ?

When I first installed my 66, took it for a quick spin, and slammed 38ish psi on the boost gauge, made me wonder if I really have a 66 , for it to hit that hard, that fast. Took it easy back to the garage. Did some pump tweaks tonight, mod gov spring etc, fiddled with idle settings/fuel screw and throttle lever index marks. BTW, I don't have any exhaust yet. Just a downpipe. So I've only done a few quick around the block spins. Took another round the block spin and boost only ran up to 15-20ish psi. And the turbo sounded different, like air was being bypassed directly to the downpipe. Looks like I'm gonna have to remove the oil drain tube and grind off a bit where the wastegate rod contacts it. I didn't think it was touching that bad, but looks as though I can't slide a playing card between the tube and the rod.

Anyone reckon there is enough pressure to open the wastegate with the rod against the oil drain tube, but then not close? TIA.

I read a post a while back about exactly what you describe. In his case, the friction was enough to hold the gate open. Make sure the rod clears. This may be a simple, cheap fix!!

Well I don't think that was it. I took the oil drain tube off and the rod never moved, so it must of been shut properly. Took the die grinder to the drain tube and clocked the compressor housing as far as I could get it, gave me some breathing room. Now I can run a piece of paper between the drain tube and the wastegate rod. Hopefully this will be enough. I didn't want to grind too far on the drain tube since the wall is so thin.

Tomorrow I will change the pump settings back to where they were. Less fuel at this setting, which is why I seen less boost... I think/hope.

I have pictures in my gallery of when I had an HTB2/62/12 installed on my '03 earlier this year!

Put a fitting on an air hose and hook it up to the boost line for the actuator. Then see what it does. You should be able to see the rod move when you apply the air pressure to it.

Well it wasn't the wastegate rod. Tuned on the pump last week, then tonight got my exhaust installed and welded up. Took it for a spin. I'm thinking I need to call HTT to make sure this is a 66-14 and not anything smaller, cause it slams 38psi right now and the pyro climbs just as fast as with my pdr35-16- (that is at max boost, pyro keeps climbing). I still need to tune some things, there's a dyno day in Indy and St. Louis soon I plan on going to, so we'll see how well the clutch holds.

Then again, I haven't driven this any yet, just a few bonzai passes to 80ish mph. Time will tell.

On my Htt I ended up putting a adjustable elbow on mine after adjusting the rod 3 turns in and only gaining 3 lbs of boost. Out of the box my HTB2 was only getting 30lbs even though they say they set them at 40lbs I dont think that was for my truck. Now I hit 38lbs on just injectors and 46lbs with comp on 5x5.

I just took my drain tube out, took a hammer and "modified" it where it would rub the wastegate rod on my HTB2 and it works great.

45PSI and PEGGED! egt's... ... . think I'm running a little to much fuel. Plans for a SP66 & cam are for next pulling season. :D

Mark,

Are you sure it wasnt your flexpipe going to your stack leaking exhaust?? (aka HILLBILLY WASTEGATE!) :-laf :-laf

It was actually the downpipe and the flex that seperated at the pull Bean Pole! :p

It goes... . DP, flex, shot piece of 4", flex, 90* elbow, crossbox. Hillbilly Exhaust System! ;) :-laf
