Are you asking for help on the unit style bearings on the Dodges, or on the Ford you have?

On mine I have used a pully puller and if the hub came apart I just used a chisel to get the inside part pulled out of th eaxle. Then when reinstalling I would clean every thing and then coat liberaly with anti-sieze. The last time I pulled mine I could do it by hand:-laf

Dodge Units - I seen in a magazine once a heavy duty tool that was a slide hammer that would work well but can't seem to find it. Everytime i do ball joints on dodges we end up replacing hubs to because of the sledge hammer abuse to get them off.

I think thats the problem with the tool your talking about. I've heard that while it pulls the hub off it pulls the bearings apart in the process so you need to replace them anyway.

Here is a page with 2 versions. (right side of page)

I bought a tool from OTC through my Cornwell Tool man. I had one unit that pulled of nice. I had an axle that I was tearing down and the tool pulled both units apart. When I install new units, I clean the hole the unit sits in and put some anti-sieze on the two mating surfaces.

JFaulkner,

Yea thats the only tools i can find. But somewhere  i saw a slide hammer tool that was grey in color in a magazine what i think was built for these hubs. But ill just try one of those tools, which one works the best?

check out Quad 4x4 for hub removal equipment. Home page, Dodge Tools, and page down. I have the 4 leg puller and have used it successfully a number of times. Just go slowly and use never seize when putting it back together.

We remove the bolts from the bearing, find longer bolts of the same thread, then use the air hammer on the ends of the bolts to push the bearing out. I 3rd the thorough cleaning and anti-seize. -Nicholas

Theres 2 common methods at the shop I work at, or a combination of the two.

First, we have this nifty little tool that goes in our air hammer that fits nicely over the bolt head. Put the bolts in about 4 turns and let em have it.

Second, put the bolts in about 4 turns, and wedge a socket and extention between the flat spot on the axle housing and the bolt on the hub. Make sure both wheels are off the ground, start the truck, and turn the wheel as hard in that direction as you can. It will push that bolt right out. You may need to re-position and do the same on the other side. This has always worked for me. You may need to rev the truck up a little to get some more Power Steering fluid flowing.

Good luck! :)

hub removeall

The first time i pulled my front end apart on my 96 3500 4x4 , I used a deep 12 point socket on the bolts after they were loosened up and beat on the socket with a hammer as i moved it around the bolts. This moved the bearings out for removeall. They assemblys were cleaned and polished of any rust and antiseized for reassembly. That was 8 years ago and i have had it apart 3 times since then without beating. Antiseize is a toolbox must have. DodgeboyKim.

ps. the socket got wrecked but it was wornout anyway.
