Can you still buy the tool that presses the hub free using the power steering
I’ll have to try thatJust use a socket and extension or a piece of pipe from bolt flange to frame. just did mine about a month ago and just used socket and extension. Worked Slick!
Never new there was a tool.
and some of them took three days of beating and banging, penetrating oil, and heat.
Is this what you're looking for?
@SAndreasen, Just back out the hub bolts a couple of turns, use whatever to push against bolt flange and frame. Start truck and turn to put pressure against hub bolts, not to much wheel turning or you'll destroy extension if using one! Ask me how I know that one.Have a 1/2" extension that'll work around a corner for sale!
Work the 2 bolts on the same side of the hub at the same time, then switch to the other 2. I had my truck up on jack stands which made turning the wheels easier and didn't shift the truck if only having 1 side up in the air. Wish I'd known this back when I did my '01 1500 front hubs! Spent 2 days in the tight quarters beating on those hub bolts!!!!! Glad to help steer you in an easier way to get them D@$n hub s off. Good luck with repairs! Are you doing u-joints also while your there?
When I was at the truck shop, we tried everything. Joe even bought a giant slide hammer. Some of them came right out and some of them took three days of beating and banging, penetrating oil, and heat.
OK Didn't realize that. How about something like this? It does away with the power steering.
