Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) HUGE engine oil leak on 2000 ISB

Help! I just returned from a 700 mile road trip and noticed engine oil spray on the back window of my cap, all over the underneath of my truck, front and rear differential, etc. Cleaned it all off and filled up the missing 1. 5 qts and can't duplicate the problem on a short trip. It appears to have much more oil near the PS pump and lots on the pan. No apparent leak of the engine seals, pan, oil filter, etc. Has anyone experienced something similiar? My truck is 4. 5 years old with about 145K on it.

I have had a small, intermmittent leak around the starter and now realize that the vacuum pump leaking at highway speed would fall right back where I thougt the oil leak was coming from. Starting to think vacuum pump seal. Seems to be originating around the power steering pump but it is not the PS pump as it is still full. Also, the oil leak was large! (All over the bottom of truck, both differentials, etc) I have been doing some more reading and seems like the vacuum pump seems to be a common failure. Can you actually see the leak of the vacuum pump without removing anything? I was thinking about some dye like others have suggested.

The seal between your vacuum and power steering pump, my 2000 is doing the same. , check with John, TDR member CPFF, he has a kit with the seal and instalation instructions.

I had the same oil on the tailgate,turned out to be my headgasket was blown

It's the vacuum pump seal. Ordered a kit for $24, pulled everything out already. Thanks all for the info.

Wish I would of known the seal could have been replaced. Paid $1400. 00 for the replacement. Live and learn I guess. :--)
