OK this is my first post. so here goes.

My 1999 ctd w/ddt trany,1. 5 edm injector, bhaf, edje comp w/wire not taped has a large and i mean huge oil leak. after i drive about 10 miles the hole bottom of my truck is covered in oil :--) . i have cleaned cleaned cleaned and then degreesed it some more and finley tracked it down. it is comming from the drivers side and from under the ecm,the heat pad for the injector pump is also soaked.

this is what i have done

1)re-sealed vacume pump

2)re-sealed front gear case & fixed kdp

3)new valve cover gasket

please help

Alright more info

I do have a extended vent but it is clear no obstructions.

i an afraid it may be a head gasket becouse where the head and block meets it is wet from the back driver side to the front almost to the gear case. seems there is more oil where the ecm is. in less than 5 miles the hole d/s block was covered in oil.

also the back of the gear case cam. pos. sensor, front of vp and vacum pumps are dry.

There have been cases where the crankcase vent got pinched off or clogged (usually by people that ran additional hose off of it to the rear of the truck) which pressurized the crankcase and then pushed out seals. I seem to remember one person when doing a KDP repair used too much air pressure and pushed out a seal where the VP44 shaft connects to the engine which caused a major oil leak in the area you are describing.

ive seen two trucks second generation that has blown out the gasket on the tappet cover. pumped all the oil out in no time and locked the engines up. i would check this as a possibilty. this is not a hard fix to change but a lot is in the way

Had to go out of town on bussness just got back in town about an hour ago.

the tappit cover is a very good starting point. before i left i did get a chance to inspect that aera with an inspection mirror and the edjes were wet top and bottom with no oil on the cover it self ( what a bear to get to)= I did not know that cover was there and i changed a vp-44 for the timming coad, and re-sealed the vacum pump. oof.

i will be update every one about this time tomarrow.

all right it is now dark and i cant see any more to work.

what i found is tappit cover has a rubber gasket that rubber gasket was serverly wether checked and was pushed up at the top of the cover.

what a chor to get to it. i had to take off the following, itmes with an* still not reinstalled.

aps *

intake horn and duct *

fuel injector lines

vp pump-practice makes perfect did not drop the key this time!

fuel filter assy.

lift pump

lift pump bracket

and heat shield

i think that is every thing.

and wed. my head studs will be here from ARP.

so i should get a good leak check on wed night or thr.

thanks every one for your inputs

thank God for TDR
