Hummer conversion?

whats a realistic cost of an 12V engine?

4BT same parts as 6BT?

I have been thinking of some type of long term project to keep me going, my truck has been modified to death and I don't see any more changes there.

I have been looking for a 1996-2002 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 that has been totaled in a roll over type accident. I did the power train along with all the electronics for my conversion. I want to take a Hummer type 1 body and install it on a Dodge ram frame. My source for the body is from two places. One, I can take the easy way out and buy a new complete body with doors and hood in the wagon configuration Thur Urban Gorilla. It's an all steel body with the same factory tolerances and dimensions as a type 1 Hummer. Second source is from TremorMUV, there I can purchase a set of blueprints for an exact factory match of the Hummer I like. This way saves some money, but you have to build the body. I would take my prints to a sheet metal shop and have them bend and cut each piece I need, then take them home and assemble.

My question is, has anyone else done a similar conversion? I find it hard to believe this only looks interesting to me. Would you go 12V or 24V for the engine? 12V seemed easier, and I am use to them. Does this sound like a good ideal to anyone else? I was thinking it would be a blast, I would go with an automatic (ATS) like my other truck and leave the HP in the Mid 300 -400 range. Use T-Rex for a suspension, and run 37" tires. I don't think my wife cares to much for the ideal, but that's nothing new. I have a 1933 Ford sedan that I was also thinking about converting to diesel. I liked the Hummer Ideal because it was a new body and would be more fun. What do you think?

Go with the 12v, it will be a lot less headaches... unless you like a series of challenges to keep you occupied. ;)

It sounds like a really neat idea.
