Info on fuel prices

the "official" MDTDC spring fling 05' video

We just got a early diesel Hummer, Is there any easy way to bump the power, alos is there simple way to up the gearing, flat out at 60mph, It aciviliation/miltary model purchase oversea by Coca-Cola.

the best way would be to replace the stock transmission, GM 3L80E(I think) with a 4L80E. this transmission has an overdrive gear where the 3L80E doesnt.

the only problem is that the Hummer is built for 24v and the 4L80E is a 12v transmission. the way we get by with this is by useing a dual voltage alternator that puts out 24v for the vehicle and acessories and a 12v port for the transmission as well as a tap off of one battery for it as well.

If the F&E guy that rebuilds the fuel pumps for the GM 6. 2 diesels was here I would ask him about some tweaks for the fuel pump. but he's gone for the next few weeks. The "Lift pump" is mechanical and is run off the engine.

the main thing I hate about the 6. 2's are the glow plugs. you have to watch them and if they swell they tend to break easy. but that is prolly just the ones we get.

it would be sweeet to see a cummins 12v tossed in that thing. the only problem I see is the front diff and the oil pan.

have fun!!!

Which engine is in the Hummer?

I have a '98 4 door soft top sitting in the driveway with a 6. 5l Turbo Diesel and it has a 4L80 in it. Moves quick, can't stop for crap (took 5 hours to change the brakes last time, I hate in-board brakes). The tach does not work either.

Does yours have the 6. 2? Drew is right about the glow plugs, they are a poor design and a pain to replace; they will break easily.

My only concern with turing up the power in the Hummer is the GM transmission. That truck weighs near 10k empty, and turning up the power is just asking to roast the transmission. Also, turning up the boost on those engines (6. 5td and 6. 2td) beyond around 10psi is asking for something to break (at least that is my exprience with those engines).

There is a guy who used to be on this board who did this very conversion in the Austin, TX area. Do a search and maybe you can find it or if he is still lingering, maybe he will pipe up.

I have a 95 h1 with the 6. 5 non turbo. transmission change would be the way to get more speed. I have the 4 speed and top out about 85. Down hill with the wind of course!!! :D The transmission can handle more power with out a problem. I think I only have 160 hp stock, and I think torque is under 400.
