The other day I got out lower the coupler down on the goose neck ball and the turbo whistle coming out the tail pipe really was sounding good. Sounded like some crazy bird whooping, Im sure you have all experienced this.

The question is how to enhance the sound of the turbo? Would an AFE or 4" amplifyit? While giving the added benifits they supply.

Some people remove the silencer ring (maybe you already have) I know when I took mine out the turbo is noticably louder, I didn't notice any more power but defiantly sounds different.

Noticed it as soon as I added the AFE Stage I blue filter :D ... not as noticable with the yellow Pro Guard filter  ! Had added 4 in exhaust but it was not noticable till the stock box was removed and replaced with the AFE.

I may try the silencer ring next :-laf .

Ditch the silencer ring and if it still doesn't suit you can take the "adapter for lack of beter term" out from between the filter box and and fender if you're running stock.

I also agree with the exhaust. The best sounding turbo i've ever heard was on a ferd Excursion with exhaust cutouts under the cab. It sounded like a quiet jet engine running around. When I went to ask him what he had done, he already had a small gathering asking the same questions.

Ya' want more whistle....

Next time you get a new windshield, have the installer leave a slight air leak when they put the sealant in at the botom of the glass right above the glove box. You will hear the whine of the turbo with the slightest of air leaks. You wont get a water leak at the bottom of the windshield, but sure as $h!# you'll hear it.

I found this out by default when my last glass was installed. It sounded cool for a short time, but I had GlassMan come back and shmeee some more goo on to shut it up.

You'll hear more of the inherent turbo sound INSIDE your cab using this method.

I put on a BHAF, 4" with a straight thru muffler, and lost the silencer ring. I love the sound! Find myself opening the passenger window anytime I'm next to a wall or in a tunnel. Wife hates that!

How bad does removing the silencer ring affect interior noise? I like the exhaust whistle also, but could do without the added interior noise through the dash.

In my experience removing the silencer ring only improves the interior sound. I like the sound of the turbo when I am driving, so once it was out it hasnt been back in. :)

I bought my truck with stock exhaust and a clogged air filter. As soon as I got it home I added 4" straight and removed the silencer ring and airduct to fenderwell. It screams like crazy now. It's pretty damn loud in the cab but it sure sounds good.

There's not too many Cummins with straight pipe around my place so it turns a lot of heads everywhere I go, as I'm sure every other Cummins with no muffler does!!!

I just posted about my "Redneck Induction". By removing the air box and just using a heat shield with a K&N filter the turbo sound is deffinately noticable.

If you look down the throat of your turbo, there is a brass ring in front of the blades. THat is the silencing ring.

There is a inside snap ring look right at the front of the ring you will see where the two ends come together, I used a couple of small screwdrivers just be easy and dont scratch the housing all up it is very easy.

LOL... I do the same thing by guardrails, walls, buildings, cars, etc. This is just too much fun... should have gotten a diesel when I turned 16. Hell, I'm still so happy with my "new" truck that I just go for rides to show off the straight pipe!
