Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) HVAC woes??

On my 98', the A/C compressor seems to have a mind of its own at times. The A/C cools great, but then at the drop of a hat will turn off at idle, and sometimes not cycle back on. Once this happens, it takes some drive time for it to get back to normal. I have checked the refrigerant and added some, but no change. What else do I need to do?

First, be sure your fan clutch is working; they only last around 100K miles. Once you know it's working right, add R134 until the compressor cycles properly (or doesn't cycle, but still produces cold air). There are some 'recent' A/C threads in the non-engine forum.

Possible cycling switch failure or too much air gap at the clutch. It can be adjusted by changing shims.
