What do you guys think of a HX35 as a top turbo in a twin setup? Since I already have a PDR HX35 I figure I could save a little $$ and get PDR's twin kit and use my 35. Looks as though they supply the 14cm wg housing in the kit, exchange my 16 or something.

My main concern is will this setup, 35+ ht3b, cool 450-500hp? I will be having a KTA 14mm rotor head pump to go along with this air. I thought about the 40 as the top turbo, but I don't want to give up any bottom end, driveability, in stop and go city traffic, which is all I do. No sled pulling. . yet. I figure a 35 on top would be a blast to drive, instant spool?? Plus with all the concerns of the 40, I'm not sure of it.

This won't happen til spring during tax season. This winter I plan on getting the studs and maybe fire ring or o-ring, taking it to Scheids for this. Any thoughts?

I don't the 40s are as bad as what they are made out to be. I think if you don't get crazy with the boost levels and drive sanely, you won't have a problem. I've been running mine for over 20k miles so far, and the previous owner (a fellow TDR member) ran it for about the same miles. I'm not real easy on it, but so far, so good. I check it at almost every oil change.

Seems to me, from what I've read here, that the top turbo will spool a little slower as a twin, than what it will solo. If that is the case, I don't think you'd like a 40 in a twin setup. Given that you do town driving, it'd probably be to laggy/smokey for you.

My setup was great at 450-475 egt wise. At 500 it was a little hotter than i wanted. I have heard that an external gate helps. I just put one in but haven't played with it yet. Otherwise the 35 setup was great.

A PDR 35 will work just fine in a Twin setup, I'd say fine till about 600 then you need to look at more air or live with the EGT's, if your going to run there Twin setup then your set but if you are going to build your own then I would say you need to go with an external gate like my old setup(in readers rigs) I took that 35/16 mixed with a PDR 3B/26 to 670 on #2 and yes it was HOT!

agree 100% with Jim ... watched him do some of his tuning runs and it was impressive

as to the 40 I have about 120K on mine with NO issues. . at 80K I pulled it off and sent it to Piers to rebuild thinking it's better to be safe... it didn't need it as everything inside was a/ok . . it is now the top turbo in my twins
