I have a '95 Auto that should have an HX35W turbo. What is the upper limit of boost before making heat with this turbo? Also, at what boost level is the head gasket damaged on a 12 vavle? Tried searching for this info, but got too many responses. TIA

Anything over about 35 to 36 PSI on the HX-35 is making a lot of heat, not very efficient. I think I was told about 45-50 PSI is about the limit on a stock head gasket.

I have been running 40 lbs for 2 years and so far so good. I would like to back it off to about 35 but without a waste gate its at 40.

Deezul1,

I run mine at 40-41 PSI all the time too. I know it is way out of it's efficiency range and sooner or later it will probably grenade, but that will only give me an excuse to go to twins:D

With my disabled wastegate I could peg 45psi at WOT, and it held up to that for 6 months before I switched to a -40. When I pulled the -35, there was still zero shaft play and it still spun like a top. Might not have been the most efficient, but it was still fun:D

Thanks for the info guys. I just installed a plate on Friday and gauges on Saturday. I was under the impression that the boost elbow would limit me to 30 PSI, and I hit 33 in O. D. Just wanted to make sure not to learn about turbos and head gaskets the hard way, "Know what I mean?"

Thanks, Ronco
