Hey all, I am very confused, I have different answers about this at the time. Hopefully I can clear this up.

-I currently have a 1995 12v with a HX35 turbo attached to a TsT 16cm housing, with the TsT #5 fuel plate, AFC spring kit, after this week 215 injectors, and a BHAF air filter, straight exhaust (soon to be dual 4" to a 6" tip straight Exhaust).

1. Can I bolt on a HX40 turbocharger with my setup right now, without any internal modifications? I have heard many answers to this, please stear me straight, I dont want to do this the wrong way if I do this, and I dont want to mess up my engine.

2. will I notice a differance between the two beside the extra 5 psi? Is it worth it for the extra 50 horse? (1psi=10hp) <---Right?

Thanks for the help, feel free to suggest anything. Thanks! Jordan

You will actually have less boost psi when going to the larger charger but more volume of air.

As far as HP, given your current fueling I think the HX40 will be way too laggy and I do not think you will generate much additional HP because you do not have the fuel to spin it. A bigger turbo does not always generate more HP. You need the fuel to go along with the air to make HP. The reason most guys around here gain HP when going to a bigger charger is because most of us are overfueled for the charger we are currently running so getting in more air = more HP.

Why are you thinking of going to an HX40? Does the HX35/16 not cool well enough for you?

To answer your question, the HX40 is a direct bolt in for the HX35. The only thing you will need to change in the downpipe.

Im just curious, my hx35 is giving me great boost, and cools well, Im just trying to broaden my mechanical knowledge. I have thought about it in the past, but im probably not going to, I have plenty of HP now, and with the 215s coming im going to have a little more, thanks for the response, im just curious, people have told me 1000s of different things. -Jordan

I have almost the same set up as you do except I'm using the stock 12 cm wastegated exhaust housing. This past Monday I had a 4k gsk installed and I have no problems at all with exhaust gas temperatures. Have only seen 1200 deg. on the dyno prior the GSK. Now I only get up to about 1100 - 1150 deg driving. So I couldn't see any benefit to going to a HX-40 until you add more fuel.

I'm personally thinking of the BD Super B/S-300 turbo because they say that will spool with stock fueling. Then I could start saving for a bigger set of injectors. :D

Yeah, and I am upgrading my injectors from 160 to 215, a mild upgrade, but im not intrested in messing with my pump. Thanks for the info. Sounds like your going to have a mean setup. -Jordan

get a 3k kit best 100 bucks you can spend espescially with a 160 pump i see you dont have an aftermarket transmission be carefull you will be pushing your stock one prettty hard with a 5plate 215s and the added stress of the bigger tires

Jordan, to answer your question about bolting up an HX40, you'll need a downpipe that matches it. Other than that just swap it out.

I have rebuilt my transmission with TsT and Dunrite parts. kinda aftermarket, aftermarket parts. everything is new except the governer. Im planning on a gsk 3000 kit for sure this summer. Thanks for all the advice. -Jordan
