What are the differences between the two? Performance wise, etc?

<font color = blue> Having already dumped the HY35 stock factory unit in favour of the HX35, the most obvious improvements are better breathing and lower EGTs. The old HY35 spools up faster (9cms housing) so it seems a bit more responsive, but if you want to exploit the potential of your CTD even just a little, then the HY35 unit's performance is marginal at best. I have a very flexible and reliable set-up and am well pleased. Check the sig file below for more details.

BTW, don't forget to ask yourself why DC decided to revert to the HX35 unit (12 cms housing) for the 2001. 5 autos and if you can get anyone at DC to give you a straight answer, post the results here, but you'll understand, if I don't hold my breath on that :D:D

One final word, use your gauges first to establish a baseline on your current set-up. then you'll be far better placed to make informed comparisons, based upon your own needs and expectations.

Bomb ON!!

So the problem is the exhaust housing is too small. That can be changed, right? I'm looking for a replacement for my current (original) one that is starting to pass oil. Is the compressor size any different?

Upgrading to HX35

I also have the HY35 and considering upgrading to the HX35. Can someone share where the best places with good prices are to purchase a new one. Thanks.

<font color = blue> Matt, I am not familiar with the 1st generation Dodge turbo applications and you should really post the question in the appropriate 1st Generation forum. On a more general basis, it may not be appropriate to just change out part of a Turbo, in order to address deficiencies in (part of) the original unit, there are other factors (performance, reliability and compatibility for starters) to take into consideration.

Check for previous threads in the 1st gen forum and then repost your question(s) there.

Good luck.

Doc, talk to Piers up in BC. You'll find his details in the TDR members list. You don't neccessarily need a brand new HX35 but you can get a refurbished unit at a reasonable price.

JMc,

Thank you for your comments. As the reason I posted here was because no one is running HY35's nor HX35's over in the 1st Gen side but the new trucks come with them. The hot side housings are changeable and a very popular mod over on that side of the board because some of our trucks came with 18 cm2 and 21 cm2 housings. Banks kits even come with a housing to change out from stock. I'm just looking for differences.
