Well, the dealer replaced my 6 spd due to hard shifting and it has improved but there is still a bit of gear clash. I'm beginning to think it is the hydraulic system - internal leakage. Is there any kind of test to determine if the system is working up to snuff? Can you measure the travel or something..... I couldn't find anything in my '00 Service Manual.

The dealer has been VERY, VERY helpful, major props to Esposti Jeep Eagle in Cloverdale, CA & I'd rather not have them have to shotgun things to solve the problem.

Had mine replaced too, 99% better. It still shifts like a truck transmission, kinda notchy with an occasional "less than smooth" engagement. Here is what I did to verify clutch function, Hold pedal to floor and make sure there is no creep when in gear, hold pedal to floor and shift between 1st and Rev. Hold pedal to floor for 30 seconds or so then repeat above test. Make sure it releases before you reach the bottom of it's travel. This wont rule out a warped clutch disk or disk wobble but it *should* tell you if your hydraulics are functioning correctly. I have read of some people getting the slave cylinder (actually the whole thing) replaced because of some problem, dont remember exactly. The next time it grinds dont release the clutch, coast to a stop and try shifting between 1st and Rev while stopped to check for clutch drag. Assuming traffic will allow this.

Look at this for a possible solution. I too have had the 6 speed replaced, but am still not happy with the shifting. I am thinking of taking mine in for a look see at what Mike had done.
