Ok - Help me on trying to get a hydraulic winch. I know about the milemarker winch, which I think is great - I just don't know about robbing from the power steering pump. Does anybody have one, or know how well they work? I have 2001 auto. I guess I'm thinking of maybe trying to put a hydraulic pump someplace. Has anybody seen if we can mount one on the ISB? Doesn't look to promising. Also I could get an electric run auxillary pump. Has anybody done any of these yet?

I agree that an electric wold be easier, but I need to use the winch for extended periods - as I use it for pulling logs for firewood. Often this will result in being used for upwards of several hours per day.

I recently installed a hydraulic whinch on the front of a Cummins driven speciality off-road vehicle, The whinch was originally driven off the PTO. We installed a Clutch -actuated Hydraulic pump(Northern tool $325) to drive it, It is awsome. This vehicle I speak off has an electric whinch in the back.

This is my first post and a new member to the board, so we will se if I get this right. I also have the mile marker winch for about 1 1/2 years. I absolutly love it. It runs off the power steering. I have had ZERO problems. I have did more logging and brush removal with it than anything else. It is the 2 speed 10. 5k model. It does not overheat at all. It just works.

Yes, you have to have the engine running, but how long will and electric run without the engine running? It does affect the power steering when you are running the winch. But how fast do you plan on going when the winch is running?

I did a lot of research beforehand. Almost all HD industrial winchs are hydraulic. It costs about the same as an electric winch after all is said and done. In the end it is all up to personal preference. :D :D

I have been watching the board for about 9 months. It is very informative. I am glad I found it.

oops. I hope this is a not a double post
