Just reading a post about installing fuel pressure guages and mention was made of "hydrolock failure". I did a search and came up empty. Anyone care to enlighten me?

When useing a regular liquid pressure gauge to measure fuel pressure(vs an electric one with a sender)some folks will install an inline fuel filter to air lock the the tubing from the gauge to the connection port. The idea is to keep the diesel fuel out of the cab and to dampen pulsations from the lift pump. Over time the air in the line will be replaced with fuel, then you have hydrolock failure. I've never heard it called this before, but I assume that's what you're speaking of. The pressure readings will still be accurate but bringing fuel into the cab is a no-no and on some rigs the pulsations will be so wild that you can't read the gauge.

The only time I've heard of "hydro lock" is with a injected engine, and an injector leaks fuel while not running, when you try to start the fuel will not compress and the engine "locks" , will not turn over. Many really large engines, have a procedure for turning them over a few times before fueling is started.

Thank you gentlemen, that pretty much clears that up. The post I was reading was about mechanical guages so I guess that's what was being refered to. Not a problem for me 'cause my guage will be electric and be in the cab where I can read it.

Thanks Again.
