Hydrometer Accuracy

I have a expensive (pro grade, ha) hydrometer that I think is giving false reading. Would I be correct in assuming that if I flushed it off all acid and sucked up some distilled water about 68 degrees, that I should get a reading of 1. 000?

I believe that is correct, it is measuring the specific gravity and water would be 1. 000 at 80 deg. F. bg
