has anyone used hypertech or superchips?

I would like to know if anyone uses them. Rather than search old posts, I want to see who's using the current products.

I ran the Superchip for a short period of time. Not impressed. Bought an EZ, what a difference. Buy an Edge EZ, you will be glad you did.

There's an article in the back of the current issue of the TDR publication that details the performance and features of these programers. Ryan Holte did a very nice job with the evaluation.

Cyborg, I purchased the Superchips programmer about three weeks ago, went to program my truck and the stupid thing wouldn't work. It would get to a certain point and it would flash "update required-call superchips". Needless to say I was kinda mad so I called Superchips and got no answer. I'm pretty impatient so I took it back to the place I bought it from and they gave me another one to try. Still didn't work. I got my money back and went across town and bought the Hypertech unit. It installed with no problems. I set it at level 3 and reset my tire size and drove off. I am pretty happy with it. I was going to get the EDGE EZ but nobody in town had it. Against my better judgement I bought the "super" chip. If I could go back I would have waited and just got the EZ, but I do like the Hypertech. It smokes Quite a bit on take-off but clears up when the boost comes in. I also put an elbow on the turbo. I hit 26lbs on a hard load, where before I could only reach 18 or so. Also the Hypertech programmer can be used on more than one truck. But the truck that currently is programmed has to be reset to factory settings before you can program the second truck. Hope this helps. I'm sure the superchip programmer works good too but I was too impatient to wait to have the thing sent out to be programmed.

What do you mean by this exactly? Why does one need to be set back to stock before it's used on another truck? Thanks for the help.

Chris

The way I understand it is that the programmer has a program that can be installed on one vehicle at a time. Once you program one truck the programmer can only be used as a scanner. If you "un-program" that truck, you can then program another truck. I hope that helps, I know this is not a very good explaination but thats all I got.

I use Hypertech on my 1999 2500 4X4 Quad Cab (Auto 47RE) and it worked great. I had put LT285/75R16 Tires on and needed to adjust my speedometer. I found the Hypertech unit could adjust tire size by 1/4" increments. I used my GPS and ODOMETER to dialed it right in (31. 75 inches worked for right now). As the tires wear down, I can adjust it. The only other thing I had to do was reset my overhead display since the Average MPG was thrown off (Started reading 21. 5 MPG when I was getting 16. 5 MPG). I did this by pressing both buttons and turning the ignition to ON without starting the truck (This causes the overhead computer to do a diagnostics and reset). Of course, I was not looking for HP and Torque like EZ, New Injectors or Turbo. The Truck has plenty of HP/Torque and reprograming the Chip was all I wanted. I would like some gauges to detect early problems. The Article by Ryan Holte is very good about Power Programmers. He doesn't talk about the 3 stages but he is accurate on the expectations.
