Im getting confused on this turbo issue. I have been trying to do research to figure out if i want a hybrid turbo, or a pdr hx40 with 16cm housing. So what is the difference in a hx 40 with 16 cm, and a hybrid hx40/35 with a 16 cm housing?? I have a comp and a superchip with good air induction, 4 inch will be coming soon, as well as injectors, pry edm 2's or jammer 3's, and i do a pretty good amount of towing, so which turbo would be better for me?? Thanks in advance!

The 40/16 will keep the egt's down in the high rpms, but I'm not so sure about cruising with a trailer in tow (re: "the pretty good amount of towing" comment). The 40/16 won't really light off at lower rpm's (below 1900 or so) unless it sees a good amount of fuel. So cruising through rolling hills or with a headwind he would probably see a higher egt than with something with a smaller exhaust housing. Add a tight auto and some taller tires and I think you'd really be disappointed on the bottom end.

The last trip I took with the camper in tow (10K) I was really disappointed with my Dodgezilla hybrid. Previously with my 35/12 I could set the cruise at 65-70 and leave it in 6th and I'd have no trouble with spool or egts (boost could hit 30-35psi as necessary). With my 40/14 I could barely make it to the high 20's under the same conditions. More pedal would max out egt's. I ended up having to downshift and rev it out to get enough airflow to spool the turbo. The 14cm housing was bad, so I'm gussing a 16cm housing would really, uh, blow. The next time I pull I'm gonna swap the 35/12 back in to get the spool back. The bigger turbo works just great empty, though.

And on a side note, doesn't the Superchips thingy advance timing? If so, stacking that with a Comp which also does timing is not a good thing, especially once you start adding more fuel and boost. The Comp by itself is already pretty aggressive.

Call JR Adkins he has a "new" turbo out. This thing is awesome. I have one on my 98 and believe it or not it spools like a 35 with a 12cm. My truck is a stick also but it spools unreal. Very fast and keeps egt's down a whole bunch. Cheaper than a hx40 from piers also. Just give him a call and talk it over with him and i believe this would be your best bet!!!!! I have given a few people a ride in my truck and they cannot believe how fast it spools. I have my wastegate set at a little over 40 about 45 and have had no issues and i am not easy on trucks :) :D

This thing is awesome :-laf

What brand, is it a hybrid, and what housing is on exhaust?? Looking for quick spool up, low temp, and lots of air flow, but so isn't everyone else.

Is your stock turbo an HY with the 9 cm housing? 16 cm is a bit large for most uses. 12's don't sound flashy but that's an improvement over the 9 & it spools very fast. They really work pretty well for most uses. I think the 14 is a good compromise. Then a good porting job will improve any of them. I followed the instructions on this link to port my Holset 14. It now spools as fast as my original 12. http://www.webpowerplus.org/~pwrwag...t=ST;f=3;t=5406

I just tried that link & it didn't work. If you do a search for "How to port & polish" you can find it in Mad Bomber's post #3 to the thread "port matching on turbo" started by k2diesel. It still works for me from there.

P & P the manifold and turbo is great for EGT's. It's also VERY cheap HP too. I WILL on the next turbo go have HDM48 (Dave Miller) P&P before I install.

I have started a group buy on JR's turbo. Look in the products/accessories forum. It is very unbelievable. I have a 5spd and i think it spools just as if not faster than a stocker. It pushes a unbelievable amount of air also. You with an auto will notice little to no lag also. I have laser cut delivery valves, pdr370's, 4kgsk and a few other mods and in 5th gear hammered down at 105mph my pyro shows 1250-1350 depending on the day. I never get it above 750-850 during normal everyday driving with the occasional surge of the right foot. With dd2's or dd3's this turbo should have no problem doing what you want it to do and i believe it will be plenty to keep those egt's in the safe range.

It is a schwitzer(sp?) based turbo, a b1 downpipe and clamp will be needed. The exhaust is not measured in cm like most but very comparable to the 12-14cm range. The spoolup is unbelievable. I have taked a few friends for a ride with it and they are ordering one.
