Hey guys, Just picked up my 01 2500 QC 4x4 with that awesome engine, bought it in Claremore, OK, they treated me great! Drove it back up to Kansas and already have a K&N in it. This is a great site for Dodge owners, keep up the good work! My biggest problem now is trying to decide which oil to use, and who makes the best oil filters? Does anyone have any suggestions? Many Thanks!

Congratulations on your new addition to the family!! Stay with "regular" oil (Rotella, Blue, etc. ) for AT LEAST 12000-15000 miles. The rings and stuff wont properly seat and break in with synthetic oils. Dont forget, your motor wont even start "running good" until about 50k miles! Enjoy!

I second what BCFAST said. Congratulations! I have used Shell Rotella for 70,000 miles, while flogging the pucky out of my truck, every mile of the way. I plan to put about 200,000 miles on this truck, then trade it. If you're willing to spend the extra money, synthetic users claim that their system of "oil sampling" and fancy filtration will prolong the life of the engine, indefinitely. Maybe it will. For me, though, a really good petro-based oil, combined with "microglass" (Fleetguard) filters, and the schedule "B" service intervals (every 3,000 miles) is a VERY GOOD protection/service routine. If you plan on keeping your truck until another member of the Clinton klan is elected to the presidency, then consider using synthetics in your crankcase. Say, after the first 25,000-30,000 miles.

Thanks go to BCFAST, SASQUATCH, and BILL, for the messages, you guys will definitely be seeing me in here from now on. Take Care, and HAPPY TRUCKIN!

Since you asked, for direct replacement, the Amsoil SDF 80 is the best filter. If you can not get one, I would use the Stratapore next.
The rest are pretty much the same.
The next step up is By-pass filtration.

Congrats to You, Dash, I think You will be very happy. 1,200 mi. on my new 01. 5 and it seems to be mechanically perfect. I am besieged with compliments on it's looks too.
I think the advice You have gotten here is excellent, (pretty typical from the good folks on this site!), Premium Blue & Microglass @ 3K miles being My choice, ( my $0. 02), Enjoy that great new truck!!! #ad

CONGRATS 7,500 on mine and loving it too much!

I plan on Rotella T and Fleetguard LF3894 StrataPore every 5k unless. I made my first change already (had to walk off the factory filter w/ a hammer & big screwdriver). If I find myself pulling loads or running in the dirt a lot... then maybe 3k?

I run regular hwy miles and could go with the schedule A (7500 mi) but after reading this board for a while I figured I'd back up to 5k intervals to be safe...

I ain't changing every 3k just for the heck of it... thats just too often!

btw... which K&N filter did you get? (where and how much too if'n ya don't mind) Did you see that much difference with it from the stock filter?

Hey guys,
Thanks again for all the messages, it is because of good people like we have in here that makes this both educating and a lot of fun!

FlatLander-
How's it going? Was surprised we are both in the same place. I'll have to keep my eyes open for you. Is your rig, Blue? I think I might even have seen you? I'll be in a red quad with a big KSU wildcat license plate on the front, the tag might be shaken a little from the engine- might hafta BS with ya! Thanks! Mark

Hey Dash congrats.
I plan on buying a 3500 4x4 in Feb of March. Live in SW Missouri so OK is not that far for me. What kind of deal did you get? What was the dealers name, #, Web site? Do they carry a good inventory or did you have to order? Sorry for all of the questions but the more I know the better the deal I hope to get.

Dennis

Congrats on the new truck. If you like the sound of the turbo whistle, you may want to consider removing the turbo silencer ring - sounds great, exspecially with the K&N filter. It is simple and quick to do, search past posts or previous TDR magazine article for additional info on this.
