I was jacking the front of my truck up and the jack slipped out from under the axle and right into the oil pan! I have started it twice and the oil came up but I am afraid to drive it to work tomorrow. I will fix it but do you think it is safe to drive? Here are some pictures so you can judge. I have seen many gasser pickups and I am guessing these are the same general design with a half moon shape and a flat bottom?

I think it's all right. The way to be sure is to remove the drain plug, and put something in the hole, and see how much clearance there is to the pickup.

I'm guessing you'll be OK BEnglish. The pickup is in the bottom but if you pushed the bottom of the pan up a little it probably pushed the pickup up slightly too. . . you should be fine.

Wow I bet having it fall was scary, man good thing you weren't under there

Looks like you need a drain plug too! That thing is damn near rounded out! The pick up should be fine, as it is a pipe with slots cut in it. It runs along the deepest area of the pan. I would replace the pan as soon as possible... then check the condition of the pick up tube.

Dose anyone have a picture of what it looks like in there? or what the pickup looks like? I cant picture it in my tiny brain, but I know what I was able to feel through the drain hole. Thanks again for the help.

Yup! That's it! If the wire won't clear the pick up, I would change it very soon! I would watch my oil pressure guage closely. If you rev it too much, it may not supply enough oil.

I just did darn near the same thing. The pan was up less than 1/2" and it was touching the pickup. I pulled the pan and straightened it out. I actually called cummins for advice and they weren't too excited to say it would be ok to run. Its a roll of the dice on whether volume is affected enough to cause a problem. At least your not the first one to do it.

i've had 2 fall off on the stabilizer ($90) but never the pan
