I'm no expert here, but usually the VIN on any vehicle will be used to describe its model family as well as engine family. Because the HO is an optional powerplant unto itself, chances are that the VIN would indicate things as such. Thereby allowing the RMV monkies the chance to put on the brakes when you go to register it in another non-HO state. I wonder if the law would apply when taking delivery of a new truck only, versus buying a used '03 HO from a private party?

Thank you, i know it was a stupid question I just had to ask. Cause it was the only way I could come up with that those morons could know anything. It has to hit them in the face before they realize its there... lol

BigDig,

That seems like wishful thinking on the behalf of the salesman, that is MA lifting ANY regulations, especially those that concern the "environment?" I was informed that if you bought an HO in Rhode Island, you would find it unregisterable once you got it back to MA. Not sure if this is true. Anyone know?

A friend got an '03 6 speed CTD down south, when his '98 gasser dodge motor decided to stay there. I haven't checked it out yet but assume that it's the HO motor and didn't have any trouble registering it. But they did wack him with the taxes for the full cost of the truck:mad: something to do with not recognizing the dealer for sales tax stuff:rolleyes:

What did Ford do to make their new engine 50 state legal?

The specs on the new Ford engine seem decent. I get frustrated when one of the world's largest engine makers (Cummins) can't work with Dodge to make a 50 state engine. I'm sure they're losing alot of customers. If I wasn't a MOPAR nut for as long as I can remember, I hate to say it, but there might be a F-F-F-Ford in my driveway. (Damn, that was hard to say). Let's hope it doesn't happen.

Better think long and hard about a ford

... . as they are having alot of teething problems with this new engine(6. 0). Oil leaks, injectors leaking fuel in the crankcase,i. c. p. s(injector control pressure sensors)that are a real joy to get to. The ford techs say that there is not a fix for the leaking injectors yet,so they are just installing the parts and waiting for them to fail again:rolleyes: ... Doug

DragRacer,

Why do most guys seem to want to stay away from EGR in the diesels? Haven't gas motors been using them for years?

Due to cash flow problems, a new truck is probably on hold for a while... . so I'll just sit on the side lines and watch what happens.

I was told yesterday that I could order a HO in California in late June/July. That is a HO with an EGR!!!!!! Also heard you can replace the intake horn, which is where the EGR is located on the 04. Seems like a possible solution for the EGR problem.

They seem to be overstating their numbers. I saw a 6. 0 dyno at 383 fts lbs and mine did 466.

Some body's gonna be real dissapointed when they hit the first hill with their new ferd!
