drove her to workthis morning all seemed fine someone noticed ALOT of oil under my truck checked the oil down about two quarts could not pinpoint the leak so i started it ... ... ... it is leaking BAD front of the motor drivers side towerd the top cant really see up in there any ideas besides a hole in the back of the case right there

no oil in the radiator truck still runs beautiful

wwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

it was a dark day boys and girls:{:{:{:{

this is the 94 i just bought 112k miles stock

I thought my kdp went but it turned out that the bolts for the gear cover were all loose. When I got it disassembled I tabbed my kdp and used locktite on all the bolts. Good Luck

i dont think its the kdp. usually when that goes the truck wont run. it takes out the cam gears and breaks the front cover. i think something is just loose or a line has a hole in it. you could check the oil cooler where you screw on the oil filter. i have seen a few of those need new gaskets and leak pretty bad.

My 12V still ran, no internal damage, knocked a 2-3" chunk of the gear case out of its way, beeegggg oily mess, then fixed w/ new case and pieces.

I'm still running all of the same gears and camshaft. Lots of labor, lots to learn.

Many threads on topic.

the kdp did that? i have only heard of some big time failure. .

In case you missed it in your other thread, look to see if the cam timing pin has fallen out.

KDP will commonly knock a chunk out of the case behind the fan hub. More common to have this happen than a catastrophic failure.

pretty close to the same for me... cracked the heck out of the case right above the power steering drive... before I bought the truck... dude drove it for awile that way... truck aint gonna rust under it that's for sure... oily mess barely describes it... truck ran great and when we tore it down not a nick on any gears...

If your in the danger ZONE and ask the question, should I? with out hesitation do it. Do it before you have to do the Extra work that will be required. FOUR hrs instead 40!!!!

your not kidding brother... if the cover has to come off the motor to replace or reseal it your not going to enjoy tearing your motor and truck that far apart that was allot of work.

On a 2001 I doubt that it is the KDP. The tappet cover is up high on the drivers side. They have been known to blow out if the vent line gets pinched off.

got to take a good look this am turns out to be just a high pressure line off the power steering pump... ... ... . i told myself if it was something simple i was going to quit smoking sooooooooooooooooo no more nicotine for me

thanks for the replies

Well, if its not the KDP... that begs the question. . Has the KDP -been- fixed? Could fail on ya tomorrow, dude.

I manage the northeast KDP jig kit, and I believe it may be available. PM me if interested. .

ohya, good luck with quitting smoking. Took me 4 years to finally stop, its tough. That was back in 98 though. . never looked back. Best thing I`ve ever done.

why do you need a jig to fix the kdp??planned on pinning it befor i put her back on the road

marcel

on the smoking, i had quit for 10 years and picked one up at the bar when we were workin out of town ... ... . that was three years ago stupid stupid stupid

The KDP jig kit allows the KDP to be secured in around an hour without taking off the timing cover, and only taking a few things off the motor, mainly the fan. It pins the KDP in place with a SS screw. . I did my 96 in an hour, its still runnin great (with another owner tho)

just like me but with drinking, once you quit you have to stay quit. i quit almost 2 yrs ago and its been the best thing ever. there are times such as last night that when EVERYONE was drinking made me want to but i kept my cool and did not! hang in there its a mind over matter thing. if you really want to no matter how bad you want to make sure and let your mind win!

A saying that you might be able to use that will help. (how often do you hear someone say "o my life is so much better since i smoke/drink") I cant say i have EVER heard it... .
