Doc Tinker Type Thoughts !

Were on TV!!!

Here is a modification I did to my M-25. Normally during competition, we use a sock filled with sand placed under the stock to get the right elevation. I decided to take that one step farther and make something a little more precise. I took a 1 inch bar stock of alluminum, and formed it to the same contour as the stock, and then I drilled and tapped the bottom to take a 5/16 inch bolt. I mounted the recoil pad to the alluminum block, and this is what I ended up with. Now all I have to do is look through the scope, and turn the bolt until the crosshairs are dead center. I put a piece of metal or plastic under the bolt when I fire so the recoil of the rifle doesnt put a side load on the bolt. The next modification will be a custom cheek piece that is formed to the contour of my face. This will assure exact eye relief for each shot.

That's a sweet rifle.

What type of load are you using at 1000 yards?

I've heard a lot of talk about Var-Get and the Sierra 175Gr bullets, but I never shot at 1000 yds.

I'd like to build a 50 for that!:D

I'd also like to build an M1A in 260 cal (6. 5-08). The 6. 5's are a good long range bullet.

Believe it or not, I was using Military M-852 which is Lake City match brass with 168gr Sierra Match King bullets. This isnt the best round to use at this range, but it was the best I had at the time. I have a can of M-118 that I plink with, and some 175gr Match kings that I will reload and try out at the long range. I am trying to get my hand on some of the Military 175 gr match loads. For reloads, I use Varget.

I found that the Var-Get is good for a few FPS.

+ 100 FPS over 852 aint a problem. (in my rifle anyway) This adds up at those ranges.

I was told that if you pull the 168's from your 852, you could put the 175's w/o any worry of overpressure. I havent tried this yet myself, but got it from more than one good source.

PS I'm glad I stocked up on the 852 when it was redily available.

The standard for loading M-852 equivalent ammo is 41. 5Gr of IMR 4895, WLR Primers and the 168 HPBT. I did some searching, and I could pull the 168's and use 175's without changing the charge. I might have to try this... ... .

I had this built be Hook Boutin two years back. I dont have a whole box of ammo through it yet, I'm trying to break it in properly. :D That's time consuming. :D

Eric

Sorry I couldnt put a good pic of it up. It's 33. 9 bytes  and I dont know how to make it smaller.

It's wearing a laminated stock.

I have an E-2 stock in the vault, but I dont use it on the rifle.

This pic will have to do for now.
