I WAS RACING A MUSTANG IN VEGAS AND I MUST HAVE HUNG AN INJECTOR OPEN, WHEN WE WERE DONE, THE TRUCK WAS RUNNING ROUGH AND SMOKING PRETTY BAD, I SHUT IT DOWN AND SENT IT BACK TO MY GARAGE IN ELKO, IT WAS MY FIRST DAY OF VACATION, OUCH, I BOUGHT A HEMI DURANGO AND FINISHED MY VACATION, I PULLED THE MOTOR APART LAST NIGHT AND DISCOVERED THIS, # 5 PISTON BURNED AND A CANYON IN THE SIDE OF THE CYLINDER WALL, SHOULD I BUY A SHORT BLOCK OR SLEEVE THIS ONE, HOW MUCH CAN YOU BORE A 5. 9 CUMMINS, THIS IS MY SECOND MOTOR IN LESS THAN A YEAR, ALSO DOES ANYONE KNOW IF I CAN BUY A 6. 7 LITRE SHORT BLOCK AND BOLT MY 5. 9 CYLINDER HEAD DIRECTLY TO IT,Oo.

it looks like too much timing is the cause, the spray angle over shot the bowl by a long ways, sorry to hear of your troubles.

#5 INJECTOR IS BAD, STUCK OPEN AND TOASTED THE PISTON, THE OTHER PISTONS LOOK BRAND NEW, THERE IS ONLY ABOUT 5-6000 MILES ON THIS ENGINE, IT DOESNT EVEN LOOK LIKE THE RINGS HAVE FULLY SEATED YET ON THE OTHER PISTONS, MAYBE A LITTLE TOO MUCH TIMING, BUT I HAVE NOT GOT THIS ENGINE OVER 1400 DEG FOR MORE THAN A COUPLE OF SECONDS, THE CROSS HATCH LOOKS FRESH, I THINK IM GOING TO HAVE THIS BLOCK SLEEVED BUT I DONT KNOW HOW RELIABLE THAT WOULD BE, WHEN I GO BACK TOGETHER I WANT NO LESS THAN 700 H. P. I WOULD LIKE 800-900 BUT IM NOT EXACTLY SURE ON WHICH SET UP TO TRY... HOW ABOUT SOME IDEAS :-laf

i have several ideas and i think they would keep that thing together for good!:D
 
Unless it's different on a Cummins, which it shouldn't be, when sleeved correctly, the engine should be as strong if not stronger than when stock.

i did beat the stang, but he is still laughing for sure, i dont think i will have it running soon, i have alot going on right now but i will try... :cool:

Seems like there was more carnage on the streets then there was on the tracks that week! Saw a brownish colored 2 nd gen that must've broke something also that Friday, got pulled into the track parking lot on a rope and sat out there all weekend. think I saw then using a come along to get it up onto a trailer Sunday morning. Almost looked like work!! :eek:

I already want to trade the durango in for a new 6. 7 mega cab to tow my 03 around, i would rather drive it, but they start to get easy to break after a couple of mods :D
 
I don't believe I'd push a CR engine without individual port pyrometer leads running to a logger that shows you the hottest cylinder... seen too many of these "hung an injector, nuked a piston" posts/pics :( scares me
