'06...whattya think??

Craigslist....what a deal

I will not pay over four bucks a gallon for fuel! Is there anyone that is running bio or used cooking oil? Is it working? Is it worth it? Should I just put it in the shop and ride my peddely bike?

Good luck. The question now is..... When will it go back below $4. 00/gallon? As stated above, "be glad you don't live in Europe. " They've been paying alot more for fuel for years now.

I should probably ride my bike too, but I would have to ride home to go somewhere. Maybe leave the truck at work? It's going to take several years to relearn how to walk or peddle somewhere.

get used to it. . $4 fuel is here to stay. . probably be $6 next year... . don't do full veg oil . . I've seen what it can do to ring langs and cyl head. . IE: not good. . if any thing I'd do a biodiesel blend. . and then I'd make sure the place I was buying it from had a lot of volume being sold. . which is hard to find lately. . and bio cost same or more then regular... suck it up and pay more thats the answer... sorry for the news. . I know it sucks. . I've been playing with my tdi's more and less cummins for now. . $. 20 more a gallon is $7 more on 35gal fill, $. 50 is $17. 5 more on 35 gal fill. $3. 25 x 35 gal = $112 fill, $4. 25gal x 35gal = $148. 75 so even back when diesel was $3. 25 is was over $100bucks to fill tank . . its more but about $35bucks more a fill its a chunk of change but it could be a lot worst. . $5. 50 Gal x 35gal = $192. 50 fill and $6 gal is $210 Fill... If I was a trucker I'd be figuring my rates on $6. 5 a gal soon. . to be ready when that hits in a year or so...

I just got to thinking. Ouch, that hurts :) I wonder if the price of diesel (and similar fuels) will continue to out-price gasoline because most gasoline is used for private vehicle use, whereas most diesel is used for commercial use. People can cut back on gasoline consumption, but the world runs on diesel fuel. The diesel fuel used by joe public like us is such a small pittance compared to commercial use that, while our conservation may save us a few bucks by buying less fuel, it will not drive the price of diesel down.

Actually, we should be saying we should be glad we don't have the taxes they have on fuel in Europe. They've been paying lots more than us mostly because of taxes.

Anyway, I doubt that biodiesel and WVO are going to be a cheaper solution for very long. I'm sure with the cost of petroleum going up, the supply of "free" waste oil will dry up pretty quick. It won't be long before waste oil/grease will be sold to the highest bidder.

Also, the cost of the new vegetable oil is going up as well. It's not only fuel that's getting spendy, lube oil, transmission oil and hydraulic oil are going up as well. So too are all the fertilizer & herbicide products used in the production of veggie oil. I know, it's hitting me hard already.

We grow wheat around here. All the costs for production are going up at an astounding rate, somewhat offset by higher grain prices. Typically, wheat has sold for $3-$4 per bushel. It's selling for $12/bushel right now. The same thing is happening to the oil seed and corn prices, for similar reasons, so the cost of the oil will go through the roof too.

This will, of course make feed for cattle more expensive, and thus meat & milk. And higher grain prices will affect bread and just about everything else. Kinda seems like snowballing inflation is just around the corner.

So, be ready to pay higher prices for fuel and just about everything else...

yup flour was $9 bag before nor $26 a bag. . big difference. . everything is tied together. . I think prices are gonna go way higher. . only thing not going higher is our paychecks. . oh well

It's costing me the same to fill my Jetta TDI today then what it did to fill my truck when I purchased it back in 04. :mad:

And another thing... ... why is Diesel $1. 00 more a gallon than gas???? I swear I think the car and oil companies are in bed together where they know Toyota, Honda and others are coming out with high mpg diesel vehicles which is why they are ramping us the cost of diesel.

Isn't it cheaper to refine diesel than gasoline??? WTF????

:mad::mad::mad:

Both my and brothers truck sit idle during the week because of high fuel costs. Just can't afford to drive it 155 miles per day to work. I'm sure I'm not the only one doing this...

I agree with you

in the past I think Diesel has alway been more in the winter becuase of home heating oil demand. I think it's all politics if you ask me. Our Idiot for a president and his buddy Cheeny both have major investments in oil companies

The oil companies are making huge amounts of profits.

I think if we get a good president who does not profit from the oil industry things will change. and yes this is why I think we are in Iraq

we are not the only country in the world... international demand for diesel has gone up a LOT... China is building like crazy (hence the increase in metals prices over the past while)

never mind diesel powered road vehicles... what do you think cargo ships , generators, and construction equipment run on?

It was a LOT cheaper to refine diesel before we went to ULSD. Here in California we get the added 'benifit' of "low aromatic"ULSD which drives it up even more. The efite snobs at CARB would never allow Californians to burn the same fuel you peons in the rest of the nation use!

LOL! I dont usually just laugh out loud at people but it makes me wonder who the "real idiots" are in this country. Wasnt Bush the one trying to drill ANWR when he first became president? ) (which btw would have been built and pumping oil at least a year ago? who put the brakes on that? I also see how much our gas has gone down from ALL the oil we are getting from Iraq... . Serinity now!

PS sorry to rant, it peeves me to see another failure in our public education system (another highly successful government program) carry on!

I own a bar and I have to tell you this whole vegetable oil thing, compounded with the "new and improved trans fat free" formulations has caused my 35 gallon fryer oil to go from 18 bucks to over 32 in the last month. It's only gonna get worse kids.

Several things;

Diesel is 40-50 cents cheaper in Flagstaff AZ than here in San Diego. right now it's running 4. 10-4. 29 here. Flagstaff is 7000 foot elevation and I don't know how fuel gets there but I THINK it all gets trucked in.

2 years ago my wife and I were in Europe. In London reg gas equated to about $7. 00/gal. Last I heard, that was about 75% taxes.

I just recently heard that we are now importing 13% of our GASOLINE; not crude, but actual refined product. That's because we don't have the refinery capacity to process the crude. We don't have the refineries or crude to feed them because of stupid environmental policies and Liberal (Democrat) ideology. I'm not crazy about some of Bush's doings (I voted for him twice), but he has actually tried to do something about the oil situation at home and gets shut down by the folks mentioned above. He has too much of a go-along-to-get-along philosophy for me. He should be using the power of his office to arm-twist Congress into getting some of this stuff done. Reagan woulda.....

My opinion; If the country goes into a recession/depression/inflation situation it will be almost entirely because of oil prices.

I've driven my truck 20 miles in the last 5 weeks. Bought a 98 V6/5speed Mustang theat gets 27mpg on my 85 mile commute
