Isuzu Trooper. They didn't make very many though. Not sure about finding one in OH. Here is one from autotrader:

Isuzu Trooper DIESEL 4x4 extremely rare and hard to find, this truck has lots of miles left. This is a must drive vehicle. Rides like it just left the showroom floor. Check out the original miles. Call 615-443-6901 or 615-473-8975 Lebanon Tennessee.

I have a Chiltions on a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it shows it had a diesel engine opition in it. sorry i dont know where you could find one. Maybe Candian?

The diesel Jeep was available in South America (Mexico/Brazil).

Ford Excursions have the PSD but I doubt you will find them for under 8k.

Have you thought about doing a Cummins 4bt conversion into a SUV?

International Scout's had diesels. I heard they were pretty good too, especially the last versions which came with stock turbos. I think all of them had Nissan engines. I'm pretty sure you could find one in your price range and lots miles left if you are patient, but patience would be the key. You can find them on ebay.

Find an old Audi 5000 with the 5 cylinder turbo diesel... I'm almost positive you can get one with the Quattro all-wheel-drive AND the turbo diesel. If you buy an Audi, you get to deal with unusual nifty stuff like 'Pentosin' - a mineral oil based hydraulic fluid, the sometimes failure prone hydraulic pumps, wiring problems, etc.

The cars are still built like tanks, though and can be had for really short coin in the used market.
