My buddy had a Banks kit on his 99 and he loved it. I just here people here talk about EZ's and DDT's. Why don't more people use Bank's kits? He is trying to talk me into getting one for my new truck.

I don't think that Banks is spoken of much here for two reasons.

(1) You don't really get a lot of value for the money that you have to spend. You can spend less and get more with something else.

(2) Banks customer service is notoriously BAD! A number of members can testify to that and usually do whenever Banks is mentioned.

I have the full Banks system that I purchased a few months ago, I spent about a month trying all sorts of various parts from them just to make it work. Once I finally got it working the truck would overheat the EGT's within a few seconds of full throttle. After some "turbo work" and installing an EZ box, it works pretty good. I'm around 360-370hp and 900-925tq. Not bad numbers but WAY too da** much money spent. The truck still heats up pretty quick but after the EZ it's at least usable. Banks should look long and hard into putting a timing module in with their system.
If I had it to do over again, I would not buy Banks. In fact my Power Pack may be for sale very soon. I'm thinking I need to push the 450-500hp mark and at least 1,000tq before I'm happy #ad

The Banks system is nice from the standpoint that everything goes together well and the fit and finish it good. I also really like the fact that the Ottomind will cut the fuel back if the EGT's get too hot, don't have to worry when my girlfriend is driving. #ad

Sorry so long but I figured I was a good example. I'd be happy to tell you more if you care to drop me an e-mail.

Check out www.tstproducts.com He was a Cummins engineer for 16 years and really knows his stuff. Even if ultimatley you dont buy one of his boxes, he is very knowledgeable and friendly and will steer you in the right direction. I called Banks once, i was treated like a burden rather then a customer. I will never call them again

I did a lot of checking and found I could install a TST PM2, BD 4" exhaust, a BD exhaust brake and a KN air filter for about $1K less than the Banks Power Pack.

I am very pleased I did.

My name is Everett, I'm a automotive technician at Capitol City Chrysler, this is my first post. I bought a Gale Banks git kit and guages with pod assembly on 12/08/00. I installed them about 1 week later. I liked the power a lot, it seemed to make a big difference! But what I didn't like was the miss it gave me after I installed the kit. After talking to Banks about it, not being able to resolve the problem, I just wanted to send it back. By this time I had the kit off the truck since I did not want a miss in my 2001 Cummins. From talking to Banks, trying to fix the problem, I went over the, NO RETURNS AFTER 30 DAYS, point. So I talked to them and told them about how we (their techs) were trying to fix the problem during this time. Ok they said but for a 30% fee. I said let me talk to your supervisor, and about 10-13 phone calls later over a period of 3 weeks I got the fee reduced to 5%. So I said ok. Before I got refunded, I had to call 2 more times because I had not seen a refund come through yet. They said the process didn't get put through correct the first time. I just got my refund last week. (4-9-01) They also tell me the sold me the wrong kit, by . 5 a year, something to do with the signal to the fuel pump, different voltage on this truck. DON'T BY BANKS, not worth it if you have a problem. Sorry to be so long!

I have the Banks powerpack on my Dodge. I am very happy with it except for one thing. When I pull my trailer down the road with th cruise on about 2300 rpm's, the cruise surges. Power on, power off unless I am pulling a hill. Well I called Banks and I have to send the ottomind back to them for a reflash. They had problems with that and corrected it. It has been very reliable and proven it's worth to me. What some guys don't like is that it doesn't have the instant on power. It is designed to be easy on your drivetrain. It will make the drivetrain last longer. Some other guys are not looking for the long distance but are looking for HOT HEAVY HORSEPOWER. Not me, I am in it for the long haul. Customer service at Banks has always treated me right. Very helpfull. This is my second Banks kit. The first one is on my '95 Suburban. It helped wake that turd up also. If you are a motor head, get that other hot rod upgrade. If you are in it for gentle, usable power, I recommed Banks. High quality parts.

You can ask yourself one question. Your buddy with the Banks kit, do you trust him? I mean, he is your friend, right?

Good luck and the choice is always yours.

Bryan

Oh yes, I know I am going to hear a lot of remarks from the POWER PUSHERS. Have fun no matter what you decide. #ad

Just curious. In your signature, you say you have DD stage 2 set up. This alone
is around $900 and it brings around 75hp. The Banks Power Pack set up is around
a 150hp gain. Of course it's a $2500+ price tag, but I like the fact that their
system is made to work together and I like the stainless steel exhaust.

That said, I'm probably will be going to go with the Power Edge EZ. I plan
on getting the Banks exhaust system though. I have heard nothing but good things
about it.

Chris,
Yes the injectors with module comes to $900,but that's if you buy the DD module along with the injectors. You can buy the injectors without the module.

I have had my truck on two different dynoes and my readings have always been higher than the powerpack equipped trucks.
I don't know where Banks comes up with a suposed 150hp gain, but I have seen many ETC banks trucks only hit around the 290hp level... if that were true they should be doing over 330hp. I really don't keep up with the banks posts, but I have seen posts of guys complaining that EGT's are high.

I'm simply looking at it from a dollar per horsepower perspective. I know the powerpack is designed as a kit but at the 290hp levels I see on ETC trucks, you theordically shouldn't need a 4" exhuast and usually not a 14cm housing. Just my opinion.

I'm with the majority here. When I was ready to drop the bomb banks had my attention till I asked Dave at banks for some references in my area. Prior to this he called my every other week for three months. Guess what? He suddenly quit calling. Needless to say I found a guy locally that had work done on his truck locally and I've been happy ever since. There's too much good stuff out there to settle for their stuff for that much money. I know I've saved alot of money doing what I did. #ad

My two 'big' bosses had Banks stuff installed on their PSD's. One still has his truck, the other had too much trouble with it and handed it over to a framing superintendent, and bought a new Y2K PSD, and added 'Banks' to it also!
I've heard, but can't confirm, that they spent several thousand dollars for their Banks setups including 4" exhausts. (They are not wrench turners)
I feel my rig would blow them away spending only my $550 for an 'EZ', and $490 for DD2's, and $365 for a DDT Valvebody. However, I'de be an idiot to beat them since they sign the checks #ad
Yes, I have no guts!

Banks the on going debate. One thing that I dont see mentioned about Banks. Banks offers a warranty. They guarantee that nothing they add will void your warranty from Dodge. (this is wha they say) And if anything they add does cause a problem they will fix and or replace the broken parts. They give this to you in writing. I think this is what you are paying for. Sure you can get the same power for less but if you fry a pump or a transmission because of your the one paying for it.

This is why I chose Banks. When my truck runs funny I schedule an appointment and take it down. They are respponsible... .

Just something to add..... #ad

I love that warranty crap they feed their customers too along with the outrageous prices they charge for their low output products. And yes I do say they're low output products, especially when my $500 HotEdge whooped the DooDoo out of a friend of mines $2000 Banks kit.

I do recall a couple of members {maybe more} who've stated that when they had a mechanical failure and Dodge refused to fix the problem under warranty, they called Banks about it and they got the cold shoulder.

No thanks, I realize that I'm my own warranty station and have no arguments pending or to worry about with the warranter(sp?).

I didnt realize that I was my own warranty , until my injection pump failed and DC voided my power train waranty due to the Banks system on my truck. Banks wouldnt do a thing, but make a couple calls and feed me a line of sh**. After a month I told Banks and the dealer I would pay for it my self and havent heard from Banks since then.
