Bad American?

Dodge won't be going with Cummins? So what? I've got mine. It's sturdy enough that if I wish, I can make it last the rest of my life. I run my truck 15k a year, if my motor lasts 400k how many years does that take? Since there is no limit on how many times the Cummins can rebuilt I guess I'll never live long enough to wear it out. Unless I crash my truck, my grandchildren could probably use it for the rest of their lives so what's the problem? Enjoy! If they stop using Cummins it's the people that never had one that will suffer, not us! Just my opinion.

Me too. I put on maybe 15,000 a year. Seems like I'll be doing more body repair than engine repair in the long run. Atleast that's what I hope.

Nor do I. When I bought my two '95s it was with the intention of driving them till I wear out, not the trucks.

'95 3500, 5 speed, 3:54, BD E-brake, Driftwood, Banks & Psycotty, 34,000 GCW apple and tractor hauler (works harder truck)

I want one of those Power Wagons that looked like this picture I've got... reminiscent of a 40's PW. Of course, it needs 400 HP and a six speed manual #ad

I could care less too... I'm never going buy a new Dodge diesel. If I wreck or total either of my two Cummins/Rams,then I'll just buy another one(94-99). Dodge made alot of them,so they will be plentiful for decades. I drive over 32k a year,so I'm actually looking forward to the day I get to rebuild my first worn-out Cummins!

I'm not thrilled on how much DC keeps cheapening out on every model year... it seemed '99 was the last year that each truck had it's own character and uniqueness. And when you walked on the dealers' lots,no two trucks where the same. The current 2001. 5's don't do it for me... with the lack of colors and only lower stripe choices,it makes them all look the same sitting on the dealer lots. Remember when you used to be able to get blue, green or gray center band stripes? How about center band,or waterfall(on dually),and sometimes get the lower break in a color besides silver? Don't forget blue or red interiors! Now that was character from the factory. Not every truck had the prettiest combination, but the possibile combinations seemed endless.

Above all,I don't like how the truck and it's (restrictive) electronics is headed for the future. My '00 is the most 'sophistication' I care to deal with in a diesel engine. Next thing you know,DC and the EPA will have some sort of sattelite link that will shut your ECM down if you exceed a certain speed or take the truck out of factory specs (Cummins can do something similar like that now)... no thanks!

I love my Cummins, and hope to keep it into retirement... only 4 1/2 yrs away!

I am like PW, though... if Dodge comes out with that lavender colored Power Wagon they showed... kind of a windswept model of the oldies, I will have one in my driveway!

Amen to that Bill!! I retire in two years and won't be putting so many miles a year on my '95 after that. If I manage to wear it out (HA!) rebuilding will be a good retirement project. I'm just not interested in a truck with a pile of electronics that will be obsolete long before my P7100 pump is. So far my truck has been a real gem. No funny business with the brakes or front suspension. I even have the original track bar after 165K miles. Trying my best to wear it out, but that's not happening.
