Uncle Mike's Used Vehicle Emporium. Every one comes with a driveway warranty included.

Does the Maine DMV and MHP know you drive something bigger than Houpty?

I don't think that they pay much attention to me nowadays, but years ago I was pretty popular. That late teen, early twenties thing.......;)

I am all licensed up for everything but a bike, never bothered to get that endorsement. We have a lot of vacations going on and not a lot of CDL drivers so I pitch in when needed. Have to drive something other than a desk on occasion. I'm still a truck driver at heart.....:D

Plus I get a chance to evaluate the condition of the truck, during this 250 mile trip I found a driveline vibration and a thermostat issue. Just got done making a shop appointment for it.

This is my biggest parts truck, the others are all single axle. This is kind of a rolling store and carries a lot of parts and tires. It stays up North in Aroostook County most of the time.

8.3 Cummins, 6 speed Allison, 40,000 lb Meritor drives mated to the 46,000 lb Freightliner Air Ride. Air ride cab as well. Nice truck.

Also has 3 way lock rears. You can lock the power divider which guarantees one wheel on the front drive and one wheel on the rear drive will spin, and then you can lock the rear drive solid which gives three wheel traction. Tandem drives only power the right rear going up the road when there is solid traction.

Controls for the rear axle locks....

Mike, you just wanted to sell more parts such as switches, driveline parts and the thermostat. I know most parts guys work on a commission now a days + base pay.

Mikey,

A LONG time ago I had a Volvo straight truck rental, manual trans of course. Made a delivery from OH into Canada. Turned around and headed home, had a really short driveline vibration, like two rev's then free rev on the engine. The truck was nearly new but somebody didn't use correct bolts on rear driveshaft, kerplunk it went bye bye. What were SAE bolts doing on a Volvo driveshaft flange? And this was after it popped a PS hose in the Canadian customs parking lot. Fun trip.

Don't have no CDL's but still have a MC endorsement, even used to teach the basic class.

What's it got to do with your driveway? Darn near nothing. So its a normal post off topic and worthless.

These off topic things keep me going.....:D

And in reality, I'm in Maine so it's a "Dooryahd".......not a driveway....

Not a bad idea, but they expense all the parts truck repairs back to me.....so I would get a serious flogging when the end of month report came out....:D

Not like it hasn't happened before though....The flogging that is.......

I hear there's a good truck shop in Skowhegan;)

40k air locking diffs?

Yes, we have several fleets in the area that do that. Order a locking diff in the rear drive only. Meritor offers locks (both forward and rear) in the 40,000 lb series just like they do in the 46,000 lb series.

DCDL. Driver Controlled Differential Locks. Not to be confused with the (IAD) Inter-Axle Differential. In the short video below the IAD is already locked in. If it wasn't then only one set of drive tires would be spinning, not two.

So, the IAD is what everyone calls the "tandem lock"?

Yes, or in the older trucking terminology it's called the "Power Divider Lock"....

So now the drivers refer to the set up like my truck has as "Three Way Lockers"

When both drive axles have DCDL the drivers call it "Four Way Lockers"...

One very important thing learned in the early days of 4 way locks was the fact that you can't steer under power when everything is locked back there.........:D

Got it. So in the video it shows the locker on the front axle, but then shows torque application as though both are locked. Is that correct? Seems like at the end it should be 3-way.

Sorry, don't mean to be a pest.

Yes, the video leaves a little to be desired. I'll explain it out a little clearer when I get to the house.
