My apologies to the writer of that song...

So my transmission has been going and I figured I bet another one ready before it died. So last week I took a spin up to the JLeonard parts manse for the Getrag 360 blowout sale that was going on... ...

The next day I drive to work, get laid off in the afternoon and on the way home I have a catastrophic transmission failure and the truck gets stuck in 5th. Not a biggie until I hit lights on the highway, traffic and one hill. With no real shoulder to pull off on I limped it home since I wasn't going to a mechanic anytime soon.

small point of interest->If anyone is curious a sufficiently warmed up clutch will certainly smoke as much as an overfueled cummins. I still can smell burnt clutch in my engine compartment.

I dropped my other trans off at the shop the next day and it will be ready next week. By brother wants me to buy his half of the house out and my cell phone had to be sent back to ATT. Does anybody want to go parachuting with me?

Not if you're supplyin' the 'chute! :-laf

Sometimes that's the way it goes, Toolman Tim had that happen, was lost up s**t creek. Then he got a better job, more money, etc. Hang in there, it'll get better! ;)

I'll be back to work in a week or two, thank goodness the work picture is improving or I'd be dead. But another paycheck would have been nice. Buts always the case.

If you're stuck in 5th, you probably have issues in your shifter top. I had that problem in my 92 for the longest time til my g/f got after me to get it fixed. I put some roll pins back where they belonged, tightened the bolts in the side and all is fairly well.

I havent had any trouble finding a job in the last 4-5 years. Someone is always hiring. If a person around here cant find a job in a couple weeks, tops, he either has no skills to offer or isnt looking. It may not be what I like to do, but it beats staying home drawing a welfare check (unemployment- same thing) and getting fat watching Oprah and Dr Phil . And I even have a criminal record which has caused me to lose a job or two.

Went to the union hall yesterday and snagged a 1 month call 2 miles from my house. 5-10 hour days and 8 hours on Saturday. ka-ching! The truck will be back on the road relatively soon.

Glad that worked out for you.
I have taken a pledge of total non-productivity in order to create a vacancy for others.
This 89 5. 9 Cummins and the package it came in does provide some mental and physical activity.

I lived in NJ for a while, my compliments on your ability to get around down there with 5th gear only.
